Launch is pissing me off. I pay $3.99 per month so I can listen to music while I work. I can’t use a radio because of the machines in the factory below me. I refuse to spend a lot of money on a CD unless I LOVE every song on it (I only own 1).
So, I use Launch. Supposedly, if you become a Launchcast Plus member, you can customize your own music.
Bullshit.
Last week, I created a Mood which would only play New Age music. From 8-12 I had no problem. Right at 12:00, it started playing Rap. I hate most Rap.
Today, I created a mood which would play Oldies and Heavy Metal. So, why have I spent the morning skipping through Spanish songs??? I DON’T FUCKING SPEAK SPANISH!!! I will listen to Enya even though I don’t speak Gaelic (or whatever it is she speaks) but the differance is that her music is relaxing. In my experience, Spanish music is not relaxing.
I ask for 80’s Rock and I get Easy Listening. I ask for Classical and I get Death Metal.
I’ve been using Launch since last August and this problem only started in January. I even cancelled my subscription a couple times but the silence in my office was unnerving so I rejoined.
For the most part, I am easy to please. I listen to just about every type of music ever invented. I actually like bagpipe music. I will even listen to Polka. But, if I say I want to listen to oldies, it does not mean I want to listen to Shakira.
I’ve sent 3 e-mails to Launch. Apparently the only people who work there are the people who process the credit card numbers.
Does anyone know of any other online music options?
sigh You’re not the only one having problems with Launch. So far this morning, it’s dropped me twice (I have high speed cable, so there is NO excuse) & says it can’t find my preferences & I’ll need to start over again. I think it’s a problem with the recent Yahoo! upgrades.
It’s Enya, Paint the Sky with Stars". Actually, my home has over 100 CD’s but they’re the ones my fiance brought into the relationship. I like 1 or 2 songs on all of them but I don’t like any one 100%. It’s not worth it to bring in his because I’d spend my whole day listening to one or two songs.
These are the last 40 or songs I’ve had play, starting with the most recent:
9 Spanish
10 Oldies
6 Spanish
1 Misc.
2 Spanish
1 Rock (some crappy song called Butterfly)
3 Spanish
1 Misc.
1 Spanish
2 Heavy Metal
1 Spanish
1 Oldies
3 Spanish
Keep in mind that I specified Oldies and Heavy Metal
Maureen - I’ve been so frustrated with the strange music that I forgot to mention that. I get dropped at least once an hour. Most of my coworkers use Launch also but none of them pay for it so they’re used to not getting what they want.
When I get dropped, I either listen to my Enya CD or Disc 2 from the Amadeus soundtrack (I stold it from my mother. My sister has Disc 1). I wait about a half an hour and I try it again.
You can customize your music. Rip the one or two songs you like from your fiance’s CD’s and make your own out of the good music. Or have the fiance do it if there are any questions of legality and/or ethics.
I’m confused. Let’s say that congodwarf does in fact believe that making a “mix CD” of songs her fiance owns is unethical. Would it somehow be more ethical if he does it for her? If your friend robs a jewelry store for you, is it right for you to wear the ring they got you?
I used to listen to Music Match when I was at work. Music Match works just like Launch. It never failed to make me laugh: no matter what bands I would put in, at some point some Beatle song would come on.
Yes, you say, “the Beatles had so many songs!” but it would typically go like this:
electronica
trance
electronica
trance
electronica
PENNY LANE
electronica
electronica
I mean, the song they would pick would be so out of place. I figured they paid a lot of money to play Beatles songs, and dammit, they were going to get their moneys worth!
If that was annoying, I can only imagine how annoying your situation is.
If it’s his music, and his mix CD, he can let her listen to it if he wants. He can even let her take it to work with her if he wants. So what if his mix CD just happens to have the songs she likes?
You might want to look into satellite radio. Sirius is $12.95 a month ($10/month if you pay for several months in advance) and with a plug-n-play tuner, you can listen at home, at work, and in your car. Even if you can’t set up the antenna at work (it needs line of sight to the sky), as a subscriber you can listen to any of the 60+ music streams over the internet.
