Don't worry about the planet, God is going to wreck this shit anyway

I have it on good authority that hurricane Sandy was not caused by either Global Warming or God’s Wrath. It was the illuminati aiming it at the New York area to get Bloomberg to endorse Obama.

Or they are thinking, but using an enormous amount of bad data and worse epistemology.

Don’t forget an ironclad commitment to apologia, plus a willful blindness to the difference between that and honest debate.

Whale oil beef hooked! Wire ya bringinin the Morans? Will the O’Reillys be next?

That’s true. I guess when I hear “retarded” I tend to think of my retarded cousin; he can’t put 2 and 2 together, he can barely use human speech; he lives in a group home. You would never make him understand the concept of AGW nor of the Biblical end times.

I can dig it. It really depends on what is the cause and how severe it is. There are some people with Down’s syndrome around here who hold jobs and seem to have pretty normal lives. They are polite, they joke around with you sometimes, they are mostly like anyone else, except that you can tell they are retarded.

As I see it fundies and such are fools or crazy, not (necessarily) stupid. They are irrational, not just slow-minded. A stupid person can be competent within their limits; an irrational person is going to make bad decisions regardless of how smart or stupid they are.

Great job advocating mass murder on the above post.

If they actually didn’t give a crap about physical reality, the Evangelicals wouldn’t be supporting the Patriot Act, the various wars against terrorism, calling for tightened border security, or buying guns for self-defence. This is a simple case of not believing Global Warming is man-made or occurring at all.

Also quite a few poll respondents said yes to both:

 Who shot who in the what, now?!

Nobody who gives a crap about physical reality would care about any of those things.

Here…

I cop to it. Seriously, I grew up around a style of apocalyptic Christianity where Jesus was assumed by many people to be returning “soon,” with this as an excuse for environmental indifference.

If they’re going to hasten ecological disaster in hopes that their living god will make it irrelevant by returning to inflict worse disaster (by dissolving the physical world), then it is not disproportionate to dissolve their physical forms.

I should be merciful, right? I should try to educate people so they can live in this world sustainably?

OK, great. But sooner or later, the Christian/capitalist axis of stupid will wreck the world. And then great numbers of people die anyway.

Having had a sister with Downs (who died at age 57) was the sweetest person one could know. She would never dream of harming anyone,so maybe we need more people to copy her?

If they would read (and think about) what is written in their Bible they would notice that Jesus is quoted as saying the world would end in that generation…it didn’t end, so I think the early teachers had to make up some reason why it didn’t end, and decided generation didn’t mean it like it does to us now, but Matthew, who was one of the writers who wrote that, also used the same word for generation when he wrote there was 14 generations between David and Jesus!

I see small groups of people from a local group home at my business. Usually two or three residents with one “counselor/overseer/whateveryoucallthem”.

Sometimes it’s difficult determining who in the group is the responsible party I should be addressing.

If Jesus was quoted correctly, then he would cancel out the Book of Revalations, He is quoted as saying, He would return in His father’s glory with is angels while some of them standing there listening to him would not have seen death…It didn’t happen… or why wasn’t it recorded? some I have asked, say it was at the Ressurection, but that was sort of secret, some say the Transfiguration, but there were no angels there either.

False prophet quoted falsely, with false doctrines added as embellishments in later centuries, then more false doctrines embraced by reformers and splinter factions.

It’s falsehood all the way down.

Considering we survived the Marxist Leninist axis of stupidity regarding environmental matters, I’m not too worried if we can get serious about nuclear power

The damage to the territory of the former USSR is ongoing.

And it’s not just apocalyptic American-style Christianist capitalism. That’s just a particularly unrealistic excuse.

People look for excuses for what they’re trying to do anyway. Capital, democratic socialism, progressivism, they all do damage to the world that feeds us. It all comes back to trying to do too much without enough of a sustainable resource base.

I have never got the “evangelical stink-eye” from a person afflicted with Down’s syndrome even one time. On the contrary, I have never encountered a Down’s sufferer who was anything but very kind. Autistics on the other hand can go any which way, sometimes allright, sometimes not, really depends on the individual case.

Right, it is as if these cases open a window into what are the aspects of the human spectrum, and indicate that probably, “think fast!” is not the trait that makes people likeable, or responsible, or moral. Frankly neither is “evangelical/fundamentalist” necessarily indicative of those things either.

Terribly vexing question. “Not-thinking” can actually be a very fine virtue, a road to enlightenment even, but I don’t know how to delineate what kind is and isn’t the right kind.

For example, a couple of Tao quotes:
"Empty your mind of all thoughts."16
“Stop thinking, and end your problems.” 20

These ideas don’t seem very valuable in the face of AGW though, yet wouldn’t contradict it either, if a person were honest and informed. Harrumph!
