Google confused me here, but I’m looking for some way to get some donut holes delivered to a friend in Dallas as a combination pick-me-up/get-well-soon/gag but not really gag/surprise he won’t be expecting this gift. He had some minor surgery today, and I think it might be nice to have something like this waiting for him tomorrow morning.
ANYWAY, short of UPS, is there any way for me to do this? I don’t really want to ship them, because they’ll get yucky and stale. I guess the question is do delivering donuterias exist anywhere?
If it matters any, he lives in Northern/almost eastern Dallas, on Elizabeth St.
Not intended as an endorsement, but a Google search on “grocery delivery dallas” found these guys. Might be a bit of overkill if they have to send out the Big Truck to deliver a box of doughnut holes… still, kinda funny if you think about it.
There were a bunch of other hits on that google search that might be more properly scaled to the task.
Grr, I should have seen this coming. I did find a place, but they’re closed. Duh, me! It’s almost 4 in the afternoon! I guess that at best, I can call tomorrow morning early and have them deliver them tomorrow, but I’m betting that I’ll have to give them a days’ notice.
Thanks for the link, but I’m not paying 10 bucks shipping for some donut holes - I’d drive down there and hand them to him myself at that price.
If he’s in the hospital, there may be someone there who can help. I have no idea what they are called, but they are sort of like the concierge at a hotel…they will go out and buy stuff for patients that don’t have family to run minor errands. Call the hospital and see if the info desk can hook you up.
'Course you said “minor” surgery, so maybe he is home already.
I would have tended to say to look for ‘liquor delivery’ services… most of those will happily pick up and deliver a lot of other stuff for the right price, so I’ve heard. Never used one myself.
Heh, yeah. Minor is certainly right. I don’t know what was done, but he was done and home before I knew that it existed. He had a cyst removed a month or so back, and it may have been related to that.
Dammit, here this link has 15k things in stock, and no donut holes?
Dunkin’ Donuts it is. I hate to subject him to such vile “donuts” but desperate times call for desperate measures.*
*I know that there are big DD fanboys on here. Just kidding, guys. I’ve never actually eaten a donut from DD.
Apologies for the hijack but can someone explain to a confused Englishman what a “donut hole” actually is? From googling I get the impression that they are little bit-sized spherical donuts, is that right? We have those in the UK, sometimes with jam or whatever in the middle but i’m pretty certain we don’t call them donut holes.
It’s a joke. Donut holes are pastries that approximate the size of the missing center of a traditional donut. There is no missing bit, really, but that doesn’t stop 'em from being made.
Not normally, no. Most doughnuts are extruded through a doughnut-shaped nozzle, not stamped or cut. Small bakeries, etc. might still cut them by hand, but for the big chains they’re a separate product.
AArrrgh! I give up, guys! I call Dunkin’ Donuts this morning, and the nice lady who doesn’t quite understand English figures out what I want after a while, and tells me to call back when the manager gets there. That’s fine.
I call the manager, and he wants to come to “my” house (the person’s house that’s getting them delivered to them) and discuss the details of the transaction.
I end the “transaction” here.
New thread awaits, where I will offer money to a Dallasite to deliver these for me.
