I’m confused; is Trudeau mocking Minneapolis protesters or supporting them?
My guess is that he’s mocking the people who are mocking the supporters… But we live in the Age of Poe, so who knows.
He’s mocking the idjits who think everyone protesting ICE is a paid provocateur.
My guess is Trudeau is well past his expiration date as a cartoonist. But I thought he never recovered from the first hiatus in the 80s.
He’s mocking the idea that the protesters are paid.
The scene reflects Trump & Co.’s absurd and illogical characterization of the protesters.
Especially with lines like, “I’m talking to Milton Milk, dean of admissions at the Minnesota Academy of Professional Agitation” or “Unlike ICE agents, our graduates are disciplined, well-trained provocateurs.”
Plus talking about things like chanting as being “terrorism”.
It’s time for MAPA!
Yeah, I can’t imagine how someone could read that strip and seriously think that Trudeau intended criticism or accusation of anti-ICE protestors.
No, Garry Trudeau does not actually believe that the protestors are graduates of a screening and training program, or that they get paid by George Soros, or that their blowing whistles as part of anti-ICE resistance is “terrifying”, or that their “irritating” anti-ICE chants qualify as acts of “domestic terror”.
His Fox News reporter character Roland Burton Hedley Jr. evidently does believe all those things, but that’s because Roland’s a dumbass MAGA shill. The absurd stupidity of that sort of MAGA demonization of anti-ICE protestors is what Trudeau is making fun of here.
He’s clearing mocking Fox News coming up with fake stories about paid protestors and school kids identifying as cats and using a litter box.
He has not gone Scott Adams on us.
He’s mocking the reporters who are dissing the ICE protest supporters.
Did you see that there is a comment added mentioning the strip got cited in the blog Straight Dope (probably this thread). Blog? Really?
I think he’s doing some of his best work in years. It just doesn’t have the impact that it had as a daily.
I don’t know why but the whole idea of the Dean is mocking the protesters for protesting for money.
Exactly. Trump has stated that all the Minneapolis protesters are paid agitators, and you can tell, because all their signs are professionally printed, and he wishes he knew where they got their signs made, because he could use some good signs. He just shamelessly makes this stuff up.
Did you see the cartoon being referenced? It seemed as if he did a pretty good mocking of what the right is saying about the protesters.
Yeah, that strip is as good as any he did back in the day.
FYI, that link goes to the current day’s strip.
Here is the specific Sunday being discussed:
I believe you missed the point. Why should the Dean of a school for professional agitators mock the idea of his graduates being paid, professional agitators?
