DOONESBURY Sunday Strip translation

Could someone who speaks French provide a translation of yesterday’s comic strip, for those of us who aren’t bi?

I don’t know French, but you can translate stuff here:

Here it is

I think the rap for French Canadian is about the same as being French. Nobody really hates them for being against the war, but it’s an excuse because they have a rep for being snooty, and Americans don’t like snooty - not PC egalitarian.

Amazing- you’d think the strip would be funny in ONE language, at least!

But then, this IS Garry (Sound Asleep since the Nixon Administration) Trudeau.

Hey now, even with its faults, Doonesbury is still light years ahead of Mallard Fillmore.

I like how there was a strip this week expecting Janeane Garofalo to apologize to GWB since we beat Saddam and found WMD.

Ooops.

I wonder how long ago that strip was written.

We found WMD? When?

I’m not being snotty, I’d love it if my friend lost his hand in a good cause instead of a semi-fruitless one. I’m really asking.

We haven’t found any WMD. Whoever writes Mallard Filmore apparently writes the strips well in advance, and he just fell flat on his face with a bad prediction.

IMHO, it’s starting to look like maybe they really did dismantle the WMD years ago.

Maybe. Then again, maybe not.

ps- I do like the reverse CESM comment at the end of the strip.

Not just bad timing on the WMD. He slammed Janeane Garofalo on two counts: for saying that she would apologize when WMD were found and that Iraqis would be cheering US troops. His strip ran on the day that Iraqis tossed grenades at US soldiers.

He went out on a limb, and it broke off.

I thought that Doonesbury strip was great.

“Parce que vous etes des jingoistic, self-regarding conquer-monkeys!”

“Oops, pardon our French!”

Why, despite being a liberal pinko anti-war Doonsebury reading guy, do I resent the snot out of that particular strip?

Because you feel immense shame from being a life-long conquer monkey?

I somewhat agree with the strip, however I just don’t see the logic that equates “not speaking french” with “jingoistic xenophobe”.

Snails. Bad beer.

Riding American tanks into Paris.

There, I feel better.

Got any bananas?

ohhhhhhhhhhhh stop right here… BAD BEER?! You haven’t had all the beers made in France. Go to Alsace, try a few, and post again!

Concerning the comic strip… awwww, it brings tears to my eyes…! Stop the hate

It’s the same “logic” that gave us “you’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists” and “coallition of the willing.”

I had heard in a chemistry class that Pateur was trying to make a decent French beer with the Pasteurization thing. But if you’ve actually had good French beer, I take it back.

The snails and tanks stay, though.

Strousburg es Duetch!!

runs and hides

Troudeau has been neither relevant nor funny since the mid 70s.

I’ll agree on the snails!

And Mr. Miskatonic, you’re a bad bad man!!!
