Help me find an old Doonesbury strip

ISTR Trudeau taking some political heat for it at the time. The gist of it was: a just-out-of-basic-training IDF soldier was involved in his first engagement with a Palestinian intifada, and was being “mentored,” as it were, by a more experienced veteran. Conducting a house-to-house sweep, the young soldier was startled by something or other, and opened up with his weapon, on full auto.

When he stopped shooting, he looked inside the house to see who or what he had just blasted. Then, very excitedly, he exclaimed “I did it! I killed a terrorist!” Standing behind him, the veteran laconically remarked “Maybe two. She looks pregnant.”

I know I didn’t imagine this strip, but damned if I can find so much of an acknowledgment that it ever existed. One problem is that I can’t confidently recall the time frame of the strip. I want to say that it predated the Clinton administration, and was therefore before the first time I learned the word “intifada.” But I can’t promise that.

Anyway, does anyone remember the strip, and what became of it?

TIA.

Got me. I’ve been a Doonesbury fan forever, and I don’t recall ever seeing a strip like that.

Most likely between 9/5/90 & 5/6/91; 3/20/03 to 4/21/04 is also possible. Those would be B.D.'s involvement in the first and second Gulf Wars.

I’m with silenus, I don’t remember anything like that. Maybe you’re conflating Doonesbury with another strip?

Huh. GoComics used to permit keyword searches, then limited them to paid members (me!) but now doesn’t seem to offer it at all.

It’s a Doonesbury, but it doesn’t involve an established character, as I recall. Rather, it depicted a pair of nameless (and obviously reckless) *contra *fighters, and thus would be set sometime during the Iran/Contra affair, circa mid-1980s. Check late 1986 and early 1987.

I should clarify that the line was “I got a communist!”, not terrorist.

It is conceivable that Trudeau re-used the joke years later, but that was the original, as far as I know.
