With Colorado, and shortly Washington State, legalizing marijuana (at the state level) have the mods been in any discussion among themselves on how to address/manage pot threads? Has there been any communication about this with the owners of the SDMB?
Now that Google searches this board we should expect a dope awareness influx of new posters, probably drawn more by the SDMB name rather than its reputation. Any consideration by the mods for buying Frebreze and fans (maybe munchies) to help maintain some level of pot decorum?
Kind of a tough position to be in – our rules say you’re not supposed to support or foster or encourage anything that is violative of US laws but here we have it both ways – it’s legal on the state level and illegal on the federal side.
My understanding of how the Feds are handling this is that they’re pretty much not going after casual users or even those with true medicinal needs but taking a very sharp look at the providers of the product – looking at them from the standpoint of is this truly their main business or is this a front for organized crime/money laundering/other illegal activity. This extends to going after the banks and ohter institutions that provide business loans and process financials and offer other services to these companies. The Feds are threatening these other companies under the RICO statutes for providing business services to their customers.
We’ve always held you can talk about damn near anything here and we hope to maintain that. It does mean that users (of all kinds) be reasonable and not go tickling the dragon’s tail. Don’t make us have to do mod stuff, okay?
