Dope Fest San Francisco Bay Area! (May/June 2023)

For me being outside might be better because I have a lot of trouble hearing in noisy, echo-y places. The mall food court is a tough place for me to hear anything. I would imagine it’s a difficulty even for people who hear well. But, I don’t want to cause no trouble, boss.

If it’s a nice day we, or those of us who want to, could walk over to Yerba Buena Gardens. Or up to Union Square.

I too hate noisy restaurants. If the noise is too great, sure we can move outdoors or to a quiet place. We’ll be flexible.

When we meet, the key will be that I (or someone in our group) will post our location here in this thread so that others can know where to find us.

It’s a good choice. When we were winning Hamilton tickets nearly every week, it seemed, we’d eat there before going to the theater. (This was pre-Covid.) Lots of interesting restaurants, lots of tables, and it wasn’t even crowded at dinner time on weekdays.

I don’t think the food court will be very crowded on late Saturday afternoon, it’s not a destination place to go for food unless you happen to be shopping there. It can be echo-y I think, although it’s been a few years since I was there. Edited to add: I just checked, they’re open until 8:00 pm.

I’d like to ask a side question: how do folks feel about revealing their real identity vs. their Dope persona? I guess I would be comfortable with real first names, or with using my Doper name. Will there be name tags (I’m terrible with remembering names on first meeting)?

Date/time/location works for me. Looking forward to seeing y’all there. :slightly_smiling_face:

Can’t make it, but suggest Dopers planning to attend book early on Trans-Love Airways. Oh, and be sure to wear a flower in your hair.

Could be a good way to identify each other…

I have insufficient hairage to support floral arrangements.

It’s a good question and I was wondering that too. How about name tags and people can write their SDMB handle and their first names? Or if you prefer, just your SDMB handle is all. Let’s not force people to share more than they’re comfortable with.

I can bring name tags and sharpies. OK?

Also, what about opening this up to spouses / SOs? I plan to bring my boss.

Thanks for bringing name tags and sharpies.

As for bringing other people, I’m fine with it, although I don’t plan to myself.

Uh, it’s just a bus ride from a BART station, isn’t it?

No bus needed. It’s a short walk from the Powell Street Bart Station.

This might help:

A shorter walk than that. If you look for it, you go right into the lower level of the Westfield Mall from the station, no need to go outside at all.

A reminder bump about this. 3 weeks from tomorrow.

Mark your calendars for the…

THE 2023 SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA DOPE FEST

WHEN — 4:00-7:30pm, Saturday 10 June 2023
WHERE — Westfield San Francisco Centre Food Emporium, 865 Market St, San Francisco; meetup specifics to follow.

Great. I’m looking forward to it.

I’m heading up into The City today and I plan to scout out a place for us to meet in that food emporium. Details to follow.

My son needs my Jeep today so he’s letting me borrow his motorcycle — yeah! I get to go for a ride. And frankly, riding a bike is a great way to get up there.

I found a perfect spot for us. Near the restrooms and near a place that serves one of my favorite beers, Anchor Steam. Alcohol and bathrooms are a must, right?

I’m enjoying lunch now and will post meeting place details when I’m done eating.

.

Between the Buckhorn Grill on the left and Blondies Pizza on the right, there is a small cove where it says HELLO FOODIES on the back wall. Let’s meet in there. And there’s free wifi too.

It’s a small enough area where it’ll be easy for us to find each other. But I will bring my black cowboy hat and I’ll either be wearing it or will have it conspicuously on a table. Look for that.

I think this is a great spot, and the food court has some good choices. My meal from Buckhorn Grill was quite good and at a decent value.

As I said, there is alcohol and the restrooms are close by (but not too close). I’ll try to be creative in cordoning off a dedicated area for us, if I can get away with it without being too obnoxious. But never underestimate my ability to be obnoxious.

I’m looking forward to this, and to meeting all y’all!
