Dope Fest San Francisco Bay Area! (May/June 2023)

Real Stoopid Question

I’ve been studyin’ on the BART map and figure I can park way out on the way into town and get right off at The Fest.

But from what I can deduce, I can’t just wander into the BART station and buy a ticket. I need Smartphones and Clippers and Shit I Don’t Understand. And how safe is it to leave an old beater at a BART station? Richmond is where I figure I would catch the train. Antioch if I took the Southern Route.

Sounds like you can get a Clipper card for cash, credit or debit at any station or online.

Looks like parking might be free depending on when you park-

… Parking fees are in effect Monday through Friday from 4:00 am to 3:00 pm. Parking is free outside of these times and on the weekends. Parking costs $3.00/day at many stations, but the price varies. Visit the station pages to find out the cost of parking at your station, what type of parking is available, and to view parking maps.…

I have small training cones from when I taught motorcycle classes. They’re bright orange and green. I’ll try using those to visually cordon off the space. And I’ll bring sharpies and name tags for us.

According to BART’s site you can buy a paper ticket at the station for cash or card. Clipper cards are the only way to get discounted fares (i.e. senior) and are handy for, say, using Muni once you get to the City.

Last time I used BART last fall, I was forced to buy a Clipper Card at the station kiosk, on top of my fare. I think the card was $3 and you only have to buy it that one time. The idea is that you keep the card and reload it for your next trip, which is kinda stupid if you are visiting for one day. I don’t remember if paper tickets for one round trip were even offered.

I recommend the North Concord station out on the Antioch line, as it’s easy to get to from I-680. There is a massive parking lot and I think it’s free (oops, nope, it’s $2.50/day on weekdays, but free on weekends), and all the trains go into SF. The Richmond line has trains going to SF and Fremont, so you’d need to pay attention to which train you board.

I don’t think your car would be at any risk. :slightly_smiling_face:

Reminder — one more week.

THE 2023 SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA DOPE FEST

WHEN — 4:00-7:30pm, Saturday 10 June 2023
WHERE — Westfield San Francisco Centre Food Emporium, 865 Market St: in the downstairs food court between the Buckhorn Grill on the left and Blondies Pizza on the right, in the small cove where it says HELLO FOODIES on the back wall.

I’ll bring name tags.

Dang. I just moved out of San Francisco in March, or I’d certainly be joining you.
Have fun, everybody!

I’d love to come, but it’s 2 hours drive each way for me. And I have covid. Seriously.

Let’s see some photos. Some of you might not want to appear in photos posted here, so that should be taken into consideration.

I’d like to take and share photos, but only of those who want to, and with how they want to be identified.

And I still need to get the nametags!

We’ll raise our glasses (bottles, cans) for a toast to @Wheelz!

Only two days to our Dope Fest!!

If I’m able to, I’ll bring an assortment of my favorite dim sum from my favorite place on Clement @ 7th/8th, for the early arrivers.

Hey, so what do we talk about? What do we discuss? In another thread, some of us are lamenting the downhill slide of our once-beautiful gem of a city. Do we discuss that? (Thread here, Just how badly is downtown San Francisco doing?).

Is there a usual & customary (or, suggested /recommended) format for the typical Dope Fest?

Do some of us want our picture taken? If so, would we be alright if that picture were posted here? Or do we / will we only want that picture shared only among those of us who actually show up and be there?

If we’re okay with posting any pictures of us, how do we identify the people in the pic? Only Doper handles? Or, include our IRL FNames (no LNames)?

What else to consider? What do we plan to do? Drink until we get totally shitfaced? If we get shitfaced then who will be standing by to bail us out of jail? THIS is, for our planning purposes, very important.

What else do we do? Sit around and just look at our handsome faces and not say anything in our awkward silence?

Sit around and you guys ask my wife, hey lady, why the hell AREN’T you on the SDMB like the rest of us smart ones?

What say ye?

Woo-hoo, let’s do this!!!

A not unlikely outcome, at least part of the time, considering how many self-avowed introverts there seem to be on SDMB.

We’d have to bring our own, I believe, which would probably not go down well. It’s a mall food court, after all, and there are likely to be children about.

I suppose we might break the ice by telling how we came to be interested in SDMB how long ago that was (and, of course, how much better it was in those days).

I will most likely be there but 6 or 6:30 at the earliest. I will be busy earlier doing what I’m in The City in the first place, training Black Rock rangers at Burning Man HQ in the Mission District. I’ll still be in costuform so getting shit-faced is not in the cards for me.

I can bring an extra big jacket for you, and we can get shitfaced together!

My wife will be the responsible one and not drink.

I really wanna go, but it not looking good… :unamused:

Dude. There’s NO WAY I’m letting that happen. Remember upthread when I said to never underestimate my ability to be obnoxious? But, rest assured, I’m obnoxious but only in a pleasant way.

They serve beer. I’m going to have at least one. Remember, I went to UC Santa Barbara and spent YEARS building up a resistance to alcohol.

And yes, definitely, let’s talk about how each of us found the SDMB.

Bummer! Definitely our loss.

Umm… I’m contemplating a BreakOut and jetting down there anyway. I really think it would do my mental health some good. Just need to figure out BART… and where to park the GTO. The Enzo is back in Italy for an upgrade.
