If a friend tells me that he wants to buy illegal narcotics and I tell him that I can’t help him, but might be able to find someone who can, what crime am I guilty of? I assume that I would be complicit to the act of drug dealing, or at least a facilitator if it. Bottom line, will I get busted if either party of the actual deal is?
Well, I’m not a lawyer, but under the common law, you could be guilty of being an Accomplice Before the Fact.
Yes. In general, you’d be guilty of participating in a criminal conspiracy – an agreement to commit an illegal act. This is true even if you yourself commit no overtly illegal act. As long as you know the plan, and are helping to further the plan by your actions, you could get busted.

Not being a lawyer, I assume the above is true. But my guess is that in all likelyhood, unless we’re talking about a major deal here, nothing would happen to you. I would assume, if were talking about an ounce of pot or 5 pills of X the only people the cops would worry about are the buyer and seller (and possibly other people in the house or houses at the time of the bust). Now if your helping him move a semi load of crack from US to Canada, then you might be hearing from the authorities.
