In this thread Driver8 asks for sightseeing advice when he visits New Mexico next week. In the course of the thread we mentioned the possibility of getting together when he is in Santa Fe.
His options are limited since it’s a family vacation and his days will be pretty busy:
I live just outside Albuquerque so it’s about an hour’s drive for me, but I would do it if this actually works out. I know there aren’t many Dopers in New Mexico, especially near Santa Fe, and this is short notice, but you never know. Anyone interested?
Keep me on the list for future events! These next couple of weeks suck with end-of-year reviews and such, but let me know when/where things might happen.
You never know when the nerd behind you taps you on the shoulder and asks, “Hey buddy, know a ‘Cecil Adams’?”
Cool. Do you think you could make a mid-week Dopefest after 8 pm? I’m going to suggest Santa Fe Brewing since it’s on the south side of town and closer to home for me. But if people have other ideas I’m open. I’d also like to suggest Tuesday Feb. 18 because the latest weather report I saw gives a chance for less-than-ideal conditions Wednesday evening and Thursday (I hope it doesn’t affect Driver8’s plans too much, but it’s still several days away).
Weather is currently showing warm and sunny in Carlsbad for the Sunday and Monday and partially cloudy and coldish for Santa Fe for the days we will be there. I’ll take it
I’m up for trying to make something work. Closer to downtown (I’m a 15 minute walk south of the plaza) is more convenient for me but I do have a car. I can have more fun at a brewery if it’s walking distance though
Tuesday seems ideal, although I could probably make Wed or Thu work. Pref whatever our “local museums” versus “long day trip” days are, which might end up weather dependent if the forecasts aren’t accurate this far out. (I’m used to Seattle, where the hour by hour forecasts are even suspect).
For those of you playing at home, Driver8 and I are also exchanging PMs to work out the details. It looks like we’re tentatively going for Tuesday evening, Feb. 18 at Santa Fe Brewing’s Brakeroom location (I sometimes forget they have more than one now) at 510 Galisteo, a few blocks south of the Plaza.
Oh, sorry to hear that. Well, we can do another NM Dopefest later this spring as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know if Dag Otto ever makes it up this way from Las Cruces but maybe we can work something out. With Ynnad in Santa Fe we have more Dopers in NM than I realized.
Ynnad, if you can make it to Santa Fe Brewing’s Brakeroom on Tuesday evening that would be great.
I understand. I’m retired, I go to bed early and usually get up before sunrise. And I don’t have a job to go to.
However… One beer? Check in, say hello? Get your picture taken? I’ll post it on this here cyber internet thing. You’ll be famous. (Tripler, this goes for you too)
Just checking in to say that I’m still good for tomorrow at 8:30pm. Settled in our Santa Fe accommodation. Road trip to Carlsbad was fun and the caverns were spectacular.
Glad to read your trip is going well. And I’m still in for tonight. It might be the smallest Dopefest ever, but that’s okay! Here’s a recap for anyone interested:
Santa Fe NM Dopefest tonight, Feb. 18 at 8:30 MST at Santa Fe Brewing’s Brakeroom location, 510 Galisteo (a few blocks south of the Plaza).
I’ll be wearing a red & black flannel shirt; that should be easy to pick out, although I don’t think it’ll be too crowded on a Tuesday. And remember, the password is “Cecil Adams”.
Edit: I’ll probably be wearing a white baseball cap as well.
I had a fine time last night and it was great to meet Driver8 and Ynnad. Tripler, the way I see it we have no choice but to plan another Dopefest for later this year, maybe on a Saturday.
