Yep, lets think about this. I know there are a lot of people from Colorado. So let’s plan a Colorado Dopefest?
Say August, maybe early in the month? Anyone that wants to join us, cool, all for it. Fly in from wherever.
I would suggest Denver but I have noticed a lot of Dopers are actually closer to Colorado Springs. The last dopefest was fun, not too many people but a fun time none-the-less (February.)
So how about it?
August, the second weekend in August. We all can be a buncha tourists. We could do a number of things before going and having food and drinks.
There is the IMAX, driving up Pikes Peak, going to Cripple Creek, you name it, we can do it…
Sooo, to all my Colorado and even those outside of Colorado can come…let’s plan an August Dopefest.
If my house were fit to crash on the floor, I would offer it but I have a sick cat that likes to pee where ever, he is being put down next month. :-(. Hell I would do a Dave rib-fest but my finances don’t allow that and I need to get my grill updated as it doesn’t accept the new tanks…however, that doesn’t stop me from thinking “DOPEFEST”

As soon as you come up with some dates/times and events, I’ll let you know. I work a weird schedule, so plan what ever it is your going to do, and I’ll see if I can make it. I hope this takes off. I’ve been on the board for around 3 years & we’ve yet to have a decent Colorado Dopefest.
I now have an asst. editor that I know can step in if anything happens like it did last time. I will be there barring major conflicts and August is a rather slow news month so…(jeez, do you think I have hedged enough?)
Specific date? August 9th. That’s a Saturday. That gives us all plenty of time to rethink our finances, mark it on our calendars and decide what we’d like to do.
We could make it a trip up to Cripple Creek for gambling but if any of our younger folks join in, we’d need to re adjust it. Which is fine, we could meet in Manitou and go play at the “Penny Arcade” then go have dinner at Mission Inn up there. A family owned restaurant featuring authentic Mexican food. Or elsewhere, doesn’t matter to me as long as it’s not Italian food. I don’t much like pasta so I would be a whiney woman.
Well??? What’s the scoop. Should I just bag the idea of a Colorado Dopefest or are there more interested? I would like to get out and meet some of you, especially you newcomers. Granted Denver has tons more to do but it seems like there are more people that live closer to C Springs than do Denver. Well?
Come on Colorado Dopers, there are many of us out there. So?
Since I was unable to make the last one, I would love to see a Colorado Dopefest take place. And for my sake, the further south the better, but I realize that it is impractical to get too far south, besides many of you Denver/Boulder/FC dopers don’t believe there is any Colorado south of Castle Rock.
So does any one else have a suggestion other than techchick? As far as activities, drinking and eating sound good to me. At my age and shape things like naked volleyball and hang gliding are not really practical.
Hey techchick68, slow down. Some of us wait until we are at work to goof off and check the site. I’m kind of curious what other dopers are like and would like to be there, but my schedule actually gets easier later in August or early in September. My kids will be in various state swim meets at the end of July and beginning of August, and I will be running the Pikes Peak Ascent, and then maybe pacing a friend for the last leg of the Leadville 100. So that weekend in-between we’ll either be camping or sleeping. I think I will be camping at Barr Camp the last weekend in August, but I can’t remember what I agreed to.
I’d rather stay in town than go up to Cripple Creek, but that’s just me. I am a big believer in food and beer, though. And naked volleyball. Mission Inn, the Loop, any number of places work for me.
Usually I am too busy with work, and other commitments, to do the social things. Bt since I am unemployed I have the time now, so put me in as a tentative depending on my cash situation as it approaches.
Don’t believe them they are just dreamers. Everybody knows that there is nothing south of Castle Rock. I-25 south of Castle Rock just falls over the edge of the earth and you will be eaten by Dragons and Serpents.
Hey, we have some very nice dragons down here. Given time they make very good pets. And once we get this dopefest going you’ll be able to see and appreciate them and since we increased the bag limit on serpents, they haven’t been half the problem they used to be. But be warned, don’t buy any apples from them if you do run into one.
Sounds good to me, whatever we do, although I’ve been kinda lazy lately. I would, of course, prefer to not have to drive down to Pueblo or points southerly, but the Springs would be OK.

I’ll be down in the Springs on July 15th. I have to attend a shareholders meeting for a small, bankrupt company I own some stock in. Oh, the irony… unemployed and I have to go to a stockholders meeting. I’m using my (worthless) shares to vote the current owner’s big white fluffy dog in as company president. ;]
I may be a bit bleary on the 15th. The night of the 14th, <a href=http://www.cradleoffilth.com>Cradle of Filth</a> is playing the Ogden in Denver, and I plan to attend and drink. But I’m digressing…
