Dopefest question

I suppose this could be in IMHO, because it does ask for opinions, but it deals with dopefests and this is where most dopefest communication takes place so I thought I would post it here.

Anyway, here is my question: If you are thinking of holding a small get together of dopers at a restaurant/watering hole (the last two or three have averaged around four), should you call the restaurant and warn them that it could end up being as many as 10? Should you ask them to reserve a room? a table? a corner? a stall in the bathroom?

It depends on several factors. The establishment you have in mind is one. Can they easily accomodate a group of 10 or more? The truly expected attendance is another.

We have, here in Houston, had gatherings range from three to twenty. Three’s no sweat but twenty can be a problem. It’s worked out OK by choosing a venue that can adapt. I’ve made several field trips to scout a location.

The larger regional 'fests (i.e., LA last October, NYC last January) required some advance work by locals.
