Doper Attributes . Character Creation

let’s roll a character and name it Og! will Og be a tank, healer or dps?

Tank.

If Og’s a tank, why am I the first out of three voters to give him strength, and no one’s given him con yet?

I voted Constitution, as that is usually a good thing for tanks in any game system I’ve ever played. What game is Og going to be in?

i always imagined Og as the dps sort (Og smash!), but i put the point in Intellect anyway as i usually play as a mage.

it’s up to you what game you want Og in. personally i’m thinking World of Warcraft while using DnD attributes in the OP.

I am normally biased toward dex-based or magic-based offensive classes, but a name like Og implies he will be a beefy tank or crazed melee fighter. I chose CON.

Charisma in case he decides to be a 1st ed. AD&D paladin.

Healer! Int!

If those are D&D stats, healer would need Wis instead. WoW healers need Int of course and then there’s my WHFRP “healer” who casts blessings with Cha (ok, fellowship but it’s all the same).

So yeah, putting a point in Cha – leaving that as a dump stat is so cliche.

He needs the charisma to sell his intimidating power and deadliness, thus sparing him the hassle of bodily harm.

Og STRONG! Og smash!

0 Dex? good thing he has a lot of constitution. He’ll need it as he keeps cutting off his own fingers and toes.

WTF? Og’s STR is 3, making it his 4th highest stat.

Og weeps in shame.

A tank doesn’t have to be strong, just hard to kill. You often get better results by layering defenses–sure it’s great to have lots of hit points, but it’s even better to avoid losing them. This is true regardless of how many hit points you have, so it’s beneficial for DPS and support* as well.

Therefore, I chose to shore up poor Og’s currently pitiful Dexterity.

*Not all support characters are “healers”!

It takes a lot of constitution to fight the ignorance for all these years. CON all da way!

Og’s Charisma and Con are the same. I guess we got a lovable boulder here.

I voted dex. Og dodge.

Well, hrm. Durability is the foremost thing I look for in a “tank” role, but there are different ways of getting it. For example, I used to pump the dex stat on a Diablo 2 Amazon, and with the right gear and skills, make a very sturdy layered-mitigation tank (for some limited situations, sturdier than a Barbarian). Still, even that build pumped vitality (D2’s equivalent of “constitution”) higher than dexterity.

So I’ll pick “constitution,” but mostly as a metaphor for all methods of increasing a character’s durability.

So many MPSIMS threads seem to be about illness, weight gain, problems in the bedroom, etc.

CON.

well, he does not even have enough points to be created but Og would have made for a surprisingly diversified and lovable meatshield. /hug
