I think you are correct Guin. It needs to be noted that after Pearl Harbor and Hitler declaring war, he was in effect black balled for his position and the words he spoke before the war.
However, during WWII Lindberg did help train other aviators, and even though in the Pacific he was officially a civilian observer, he did manage to see some action in the Pacific theater. I do think that after the war started, he felt sorry for his previous views, and acted accordingly.
Now, if only this Charles could learn the lesson of the other one….

Well, this guy made me agree with ** Diogenes ** - I called up Satan and he said they were getting snow. 
Now, by my last name, I would have to go back to merry old England. Either that or Ireland, Scotland, maybe the Netherlands(but that place is so crowded) or maybe Germany.(Of course, I would have to learn that godawful language they speak - it has sounds even ** I ** have a hard time pronoucing. Of course, some of my ancestors walked here from Siberia, that might not be too bad, I like wide open spaces, though it would be a bit chilly.
What worries me about guys like this is they have a tendency to confuse us legal-type immigrants with the illegal ones. I had enough to put up with after Sept. 11th with co-workers talking about how all immigrants should be deported, not just the illegal ones. At that point, I looked up from what I was doing and said, if that happened, it was going to take me a lot longer to fix their database.
So, if the hard-core anti-immigrant folks take over, could I get a London Dopefest?

Y’know, even if you prefer the coastal migration theory over the Bering land bridge theory, throwing out a casual reference to crossing the Bering Straits is a perfectly acceptable way to note one’s Indian ancestry. (Besides, your “didn’t think so” implies that you are ignorant of the fact that a (small) number of Russians did immigrate by way of Alaska in the nineteenth century.)
Of course, you could withdraw your querelous challenge before he was forced to take note of your error.
As a white (medium brown) American in a minority neighborhood being taken over by Puerto Rican Commonwealth immigrants (mostly medium brown also) I’d just like to say, ho-hum.
They take care of their yards, keep their kids out of the streets at night and don’t make many more loud noises than we do. Ergo, perfect neighbors. The Muslims and Hindus that live nearby haven’t come to blows over Kashmir yet, thankfully.
OTOH, they all speak English and have bought into the residential American Dream. Moreover, I don’t live on the border with Mexico. That’s a mess.
A limited defense of Lindbergh would at least point out that racism was, to a certain extent, based on the science of the times. Most of the understandings of the fundamental nature, movements, or development of humans and “races” throughout the world have been guesswork until DNA testing came along fairly recently.
It would be substantially more accurate to note that the racist science of the times was rooted in the xenophobia and desire for exalting their own groups exercised by the scientists. When Blumenbach described his five races of humanity, he went to great lengths to insist that they could be used only to identify geographic location of an individual and that no moral or qualitative attributes could be assigned to a person (or the group) based on those categories. Before he died, he was already having to protest others’ use of his system to “rate” groups according to the other scientists’ preconceived notions of how close other groups were to the “superior” Causcasian race.
I remain certain that we can simply shred any argument provided by bigots, provided that we stick to the defined debate and do not allow weaseling or topic shifting.
