The flyer, Lindbergh, was put off by much of the “mob” mentality that he encountered, first when he was lionized for his achievements and later when his son was kidnapped. He, along with a great many people in the early 30s, was attracted by the notions of Fascism, which was a growing governmental system at the time. Those two feelings converged in an admiration of Hitler’s regime and he came to embrace much of the Nazi philosophy, leading to the U.S. government initially barring him from offering assistance to the war effort. However, once Germany declared war of the U.S., Lindbergh disavowed all association with the Nazis and was eventually allowed to participate in testing and training programs with the USAAF. (He actually flew a couple of combat missions in the Pacific.)
I have never seen any evidence that he changed his views toward “the mob” or his views of “superior” societies, but he stopped espousing Nazi or racist programs.
I believe that people like Chucky are not interested in debate. It seems they spew out this crap in the hopes of attracting a few like minded people to join their cause. I truly don’t believe they expect to change anyones mind to their point of view. So in these cases, debate is futile.
In my case they will be taking over schools in Scotland and Finland.
No. And I would take a different attitude if he was spewing his nonsense to an audience of Jr High kids. But no one here is going to won over to his cause, and I think all we’re doing by debating him is giving him a platform. No debate and he goes away.
I have yet to encounter a racist who was not aware that his views were not popular in some quarters.
I have encountered racists who seemed to WANT people to spit on them, so they could play the martyr and accuse those who opposed them of “hypocrisy.”
Consequently, as far as message boards go, I can see only the two options previously stated:
He’s a troll. Solution: The only solutions for a troll are ignoring him, or waiting for him to get bored and go away.
He’s a racist moron. Solution: Well, he ain’t gonna be convinced, no matter how many arguments you shoot out from under him. He WANTS you to argue with him, so he can be a martyr and accuse you of hypocrisy. Ignore him, or wait for him to get bored and go away.
Either way, ignoring him seems like a pretty functional option…
He may be off his nut on the racial aspects, but he’s not crazy to think that there is an element of conquest in the Mexican government’s emigration policy. There are plenty of dickweed Mexican politicians giving ammunition to racists like Mr. Lindbergh:
“Even though I am saying this part serious and part joking, we are practicing la Reconquista in California” – Jose Angel Pescador Osuna, Mexican consul general in Los Angeles
"We are betting [that Mexican-Americans] will think ‘Mexico first’ " – Juan Hernandez, Mexican Cabinet Minister for Mexicans Abroad
Yeah, but what those dickweed Mexican politicians are generally doing is talking for the bleachers (Appeals to dumb nationalism are a worldwide political tool; and one of the biggest tragedies of Latin America and the Third World in general IS the presence of these dickweed politicians who cannot or will not realize that if their dream of cutting “the rich” down to size happens, their own countries are going to get it in the nuts.)
The more realistic thought would be not so much a conquest/takeover as the building of a voting/lobbying bloc that will cause the US to adopt policies favourable to Mexico, in the way they imagine that US Jews make us support Israel. However, Mr. Hernández is placing a very risky bet – the US-born latter-generation Mexican-Americans may very well figure they do not have that much more in common with the guys down south.
In addition to what tomndebb wrote, aside from some meandering into blaming the Jews for wanting to get the US into WWII, Lindbergh’s racism was primarily of the “Yellow Peril” variety, fearing that the Asiatic hordes would threaten White Europeans. He was hardly the only person of the time to share such views, but they weren’t really scientific. This was part of his admiration for Hitler, who played on the “Asiatic hordes” of Russia in his desire to expand eastwards to create lebensraum for Aryans. As Lindbergh said in a radio broadcast in April 1939 speaking of the coming war in Europe:
As for the poster Lindbergh, I’m sticking with not worth sifting through the trash to debate.
All I can say about Lindbergh (the soon-to-be-ex-Doper) is that when they start talking about White with a capital W – as in the White race, White America, White pride, etc. – you know it’s gonna be bad.
No, we ban him because he’s uninteresting and we have rules against trolling.
Again, why do we care what he wants?
The proper solution in this case is to counter his arguments with arguments of our own. It shouldn’t be too hard, and it will have the bonus of convincing lurkers that his arguments can be refuted by simple arguments honestly stated.
Lurkers could be convinced by his arguments, and I think we have a duty to counter his arguments as a service to them as long as he is here. I don’t think he’ll be here too long, though: While odious beliefs aren’t bannable (in theory), jerkish behavior is. And Charles A Lindberg is going to act like a serious jerk very soon now, and the mods will cut him absolutely no slack.
The sad, sad part of all this is that at some point he will move to Alaska, because that’s what most racist whackjobs seem to do. Once here, he will join the Republican right and the Baptist church, possibly run for assembly or the legislature, and write hate letters to the editor about the goldurn drunken Natives and all the handouts they get.
I feel it coming as sure as my next bowel movement, only it’s going to be much less satisfying.
Great post Tom. Certainly, as an Australian who loves history I must admit my knowledge of Charles Lindburgh is somewhat sketchy regarding his later political stances - but I must say that in the interests of fairness, I reckon the kidnapping and murder of his lovely little 20 month old boy would probably have made anyone bitter about “mob mentality” for sure I dare say.
Which is not to say his later views were correct or proper - merely that such a tragic event would surely have fucked with my own head if I’d been in his shoes I suspect.
