I was just thinking… we have a gallery for sound clips at the Teeming Millions Homepage, but at the moment all that is there is a song from a band who has a member on the boards.
What if we changed or added to it a “Karaoke” section and have people submit themselves singing? Or would that be too embarrassing?
Also, anyone who wants to submit a sound clip of their voice, you can send it to opalcat@fathom.org – please name the file your_username_here.mp3 or your_username_here.wav or whatever.
Yes, it would be embarrassing, but fun. I do have some mp3s of recordings I made with my recording equipment. Wouldn’t it be illegal to post a copywrited song? Or is it ok if you’re not doing it for profit?
I’ll do it if other people do it. If we can get 5 or more I’ll do it.
I think it is probably ok to do it… I mean it’s not being sold or performed publically in the traditional sense… I mean I seriously seriously doubt anyone would do anything or care even if the “powers that be” came across it.
Make the song a parody. Change the lyrics of a popular song into something silly (like those songs people sing to their dogs and cats) and it will fall under fair use. Then you’ll be fine.
