For myself, if a thread title doesn’t cause an answer to start writing itself in my head I don’t even open it, particularly in GQ. I always assume that someone on the board knows more about it than I do.
I don’t know why nobody else answered your thread but I think there’s an element of timing, too. Sometimes when the board is pretty busy a new thread sinks to the bottom pretty quickly. If it’s below thread titles I’ve already skimmed earlier I’m not likely to notice it.
Speaking from the perspective of a GQ mod, that’s basically it. Many people have first hand experience of mountain tops, and many more know something about them from second hand sources like films and photos. So a lot of people may think they can contribute.
The main problem with the OP’s question was that it was highly subjective, as well as vague and lacking in specific detail. No one else knows exactly what qualifies as a “stink” in the OP’s mind, so without info on the specific products few people may feel they can say much useful.
Um, I don’t know what kind of doctor does hernia operations. That’s not a dumb question.
Knowing what the tops of mountains are like requires looking a some pictures. Knowing that every mountain top is different requires a little common sense.
I try to answer questions where I think I have something to contribute. I’m funny like that. Just for you, I went and made a contribution in your funny smell thread. Not sure how relevant though…
That makes the question easy to answer. Your OP is about which questions get responses. More people try to answer questions that are easy rather than those that are hard. People usually don’t decide not to answer a question because it is easy.
You’ll note that your OP is easy to answer, so you are getting lots of responses.
Perspectives vary. I thought the mountaintop question was way more interesting than yours. Before you added onto to it your original question was (to be frank) kind poorly crafted and annoying for it’s lack of detail. If you are asking for specific responses it’s only common sense to explicitly identify the products you think have this characteristic out of the thousands of soap products out there.
