Doper Parents: Ever had This Teething Issue?

I hope this is in the right place as I’m just looking for anecdotal responses–I’ll check with the pedi at our check-up next month for a medical opinion.

Lil Baby Dax is 4.5 months old and teething. I’m not surprised by this, since her big brother got his first tooth at 4.5 months also. What is surprising is the location of the first tooth that erupted today–if you look at this chart , it would be the first molar on the lower right. I always thought the lower central incisors were first to erupt. Has anyone out there experienced this with their kiddos, and if so, were there any long-term ramifications?

TIA for any and all responses. I’m off the boards for tonight for some much-needed rest but I eagerly await your input

Wow, that is unusual. I don’t know of anyone who experienced that, but I can’t think of why it would be a problem. Maybe you’ll just get to be one of those lucky ones who makes a doctor say “I’ve never seen this before!” Something to put in the baby book.

I have heard of the top teeth emerging first but never the molars. Sorry I’m of no help.

I’m no help either…but. I do know that teething is very variable. Some babies are born with a full set of teeth in place. Others don’t have any erupt till a year or more of age. Sounds like something to mention to your doctor during your next check up.

Thanks for the responses. I’m probably obsessing needlessly–I just have this horrible image of her grinning at age 2 with all but her front teeth in, but I suppose the odds of her front teeth missing are pretty low

Sadly, your daughter may be an alien. I suggest swaddling her firmly in tin foil to keep her from trading national secrets with the mothership.

Seriously though, if it doesn’t bother her, I wouldn’t worry about it. Weird but harmless.

Hmm, a good suggestion but she hates being swaddled in tin foil. Maybe saran wrap would be more comfy? Anything for national security, ya know  Thanks for the grin.

Maybe this is a stupid question (please don’t take offense), but: are you sure it’s a tooth? A friend of mine thought her son got his first tooth really early – but then found out it was really some kind of white cyst.

Nope, not a stupid question  But I’m pretty sure it’s a tooth because it’s hard like a tooth. And she’s had all the hallmark teething symptoms–drooling, chewing on her fingers, fussing, rashy cheeks, etc. At her last check-up the doc said “Hmm, the way she’s moving her tongue around makes me think she has a tooth coming in soon”. So I think in her case it’s probably not a cyst, although I’ve never heard of that so I learned something new today!
