Doper recommendations you enjoyed

Never heard of it til I read the forum.

I didn’t post to this thread, but I picked up this CD on the recommendations of Twixter, WordMan and Marley23, and it rocks! I’ve been listening to it almost exclusivly for the last couple weeks. I also picked up Mosaic Records Boogie Woogie piano recommended by WordMan too, and it’s great, just the kind of stuff I love. Next up on my list to look into is the slide guitarist Sonny Landreth.

Cool - but you have to get some Jeff Beck and Peter Green, too!

OK - Jeff Beck I know of (Highway Jam off the top of my head). Truth, Peter Green - on the list.

Duh, and the Yardbirds. Curse my aging addled brain.

Nothing yet, although I’ve been meaning to ask for some book recommendations. I’ll probably make a post when my classes get easier.

I don’t remember who it was but somebody on this board once recommended SF author Robert Charles Wilson. I hadn’t read his work before but now he’s one of my favorites.

Also, thanks to the SDMB I now have a totally awesome asian girlfriend. Thanks, SDMB!

CalMeacham turned me on to The Last of Sheila back in 2001, for which I am eternally grateful.

There have been a lot, but the only comes to mind right now is Solaar Pleure, a song by French rapper MC Solaar. Thank you, whoever you were! My favorite rap song ever (I’m not a huge rap fan, but this ranks up there with faves from other genres). The combination of the lyrics and music is just so beautiful.

(just ignore the video, doesn’t do the song justice…)

You’re welcome. Well someone in one of the World War Z threads said they were going to read The Good War after I mentioned it, I don’t remember if it was you. I learned of World War Z from here. Maybe I would have discovered it on my own. I picked up the Dresden Files because of here. I was curious because of the new at the time TV series and the books were recommended.

David Foster Wallace. Thanks, WordMan.

 btw, I read that first, obscure essay of his you found. Great stuff.

Yup, that was me, and thank you!!
