The ones I’ve noticed most are the plays on words: Hilarity N. Suze, A R Cane, Scruloose, Patty O’Furniture, Czarcasm, Wile E - the list goes on. I think they’re great.
There’s also the newly-joined nikonikosuru.
Least Original User Name Ever, I think you belong in the same category as pretend my name is witty, NoCoolUserName and NoPretentiousCodename. That category being, of course, usernames with five or more syllables.
I’m not sure what category I can go in. Does “random string of characters with no inherent meaning but is at least theoretically pronounceable” count as a category? If so, that would also include Quiddity Glomfuster (not that I’m saying my username is anywhere near as cool as Quiddity’s).
I mentioned three animal posters just in the last few days in the thread entitled “Was able to add bald eagle to my yard list yesterday.” They are nyctea scandiaca (snowy owl), pseudotriton ruber ruber (red salamander) and Colibri (a genus name for hummingbird.) There’s also **Bear Nenno **and at least one other bear that I’m forgetting right now.
I guess you could put my name in the “Hard to Define” list. No it isn’t a misspelling of a genre of kitschy Hawaiian party props. It doesn’t have anything to do with Kipling’s Rikki Tikki Tavi. Nor has it anything to do with Indian cuisine such as tikki loo. It’s a shortened version of my Finnish grandmother’s maiden name.
Hey wait! Her full name is Tikkanen. The “Tikka” part means flicker, which is a type of woodpecker. (The “-nen,” means “From the south part of the country.” Or so I’ve been told.) So I guess I’m an animal too! Maybe I should change the spelling.
Hey! ‘Quiddity’ is a perfectly good word with a definition and all. It’s ‘Glomfuster’ that was created by the brain of moi BTW thanks for the compliment. Here was I thinking you were from Africa or something.
File me under Movies > subcategory: Princess Bride, alongside Inigo Montoya.
Heavenly nobody.
I know the board has at least a trio of Otto names:
Otto
Dag Otto
Ottoerotic*
*Who would also fit into Quiddity Glomfuster’s “Play On Words” category.
Don’t forget Shirley Ujest and Rue deDay.
I think I like the Plays on Words category best.
Do we put **Canivorousplant ** in the Plant group, or under Musicals?
Mine’s *kind of * a job description (I run a lab, but have minions to take out the trash).
Along with the former poster known as 80s Metal Hair Maven (among other screen names).
Scubaqueen and I fit in the Sports category. Anybody joining us?
Some Monsters:
Qadgop the Mercotan
Ogre
Monstre
I get to go in the Dopers of Color category!
Do we have a category for literary characters? I’d be there. . .
Tripler
- of Doonesbury reference.
How about names with hidden backwards messages? I’m sure I’ve seen plenty of them around, but Der Trihs, Hal Briston and Etumretniw are the only ones I can think of right now.
A related category would be palindromic names, such as Otto, Eve and I Love Me, Vol. I.
What about sub-categories? I there’s myself, August West, and I believe a couple other Grateful Dead references out there.
Also from SNL is my favorite username: WOOKINPANUB, from an Eddie Murphy skit.
Mythological beings:
silenus
Kytheria
You’d be tempted to lump me in with animals, but really I’m a TV character.
I can go in as mythical, or animal.
As for the Really Long Names category (or whatever it is being called)
ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies is always impressive!
I’m a place! If it’s religious/mythological it still counts as a place, right?
Do we have an acronym category yet? I thought we had a few dopers with acronym-ic names.
