Yep Yojimbo, excellent thinking. I doubt we could go wrong on a Literary pub crawl. Kind of troubling that it lasts one hour 50 minutes and they want $250…either it’s a misprint or it includes a round-trip ticket to the US
Hey Manny – you got a working name for this proposed gig yet ?
Anyone like the ‘In Seine Fest’ ?..leave me alone…it’s a work in progress…ouch !
Last time I was in Paris was <large number deleted> years ago. And it rained all the bloody time, too! If I’d wanted to go up a tall pointy metal structure and look out at an endless sea of grey wet stuff, I’d have gone to flippin’ Blackpool…
So, that makes me another one of those definite maybes…
now i’m depressed. thanks manny. i don’t think i’ll have the cash to go, but it’s been too long since i’ve been there as well. if i can raise the cash i’ll be there
In that case, let me talk to my travel agent about hotel bookings. I’ll review this thread in a couple days to see what dates work best for the most people and see about getting a block of rooms.
If you plan to take Ryan Air to Paris…from Dublin, let me know. It’s a bit of a nightmare logistically, which they do NOT tell you when they sell you the cheapie tix.

Again, here I am outside Paris…would love to see a Dopefest…if hubby will let me! I also have a daughter, 16mos, so if you have kids, bring’em!
Not really, given that IMO the JJ is the worst damn pub in the whole city. And three years ago they were charging 45 francs for a half of Guiness. Although admittedly that’s not too out of line for Paris.
Oh yes - worst except for that Scottish one (the name escapes me - was it the Auld Alliance?). Now there’s a shit pub.
For sheer comedy value I like the Bowler - possibly the worst attempt at an “English” theme pub on the planet!
ruadh…
logistical nightmare in that if you are only coming for a weekend…you spend 1/2 your time waiting for the bus, riding or the bus, or waiting to take the bus back…you have to be there 2/5 hrs early to take the bus from JJ pub to the airport…then wait at the airport…ugh…glad I’m here in Paris…
btw…my hubby is Irish, where are you from? He’s from Dublin.
Ya think? I liked it, but then again I was there the night before Bordeaux-Celtic, so the atmosphere might have been somewhat different to normal.
Maman, points well taken but those of us (we’re all based in Dublin BTW) used to travelling on Ryan Air know that that’s par for the course with them, since they tend to fly into smaller, more out-of-the-way airports.
We’ll be moving back there, in hmmmm…a few years, if the house prices get lower than the GDP of some small countries.
Who is the “we all” that you mention…who are the Irish Dopers?

Nice to meet ya…John misses the craic terribly, as the Frogs lack craic…hey that rhymes…but you couldn’t find a more dour bunch than your average frog-leg-eatin’, wine-guzzlin’, LeMonde-readin’ Frenchie! That’s why I’m here, to get a bit of a laugh!
We are here for John’s post-doc…we originally were going to Amsterdam, then Crete and wound up here. Not complainin’ but Crete…ahhhh…the sun, the sand…
