Many years ago, there was an obese, mean, double-dealing fellow down in a very rural part of rural Tennessee, who was described to me as “the biggest Bubba around his parts”. He lived in a single-wide trailer, and had an additional trailer behind it which was filled to the top with stolen VCRs, TVs, and moonshine. How do we know this? The police inventoried it after he was murdered.

He was murdered because he began to deal drugs in a significant way in his little area, and after awhile he ran afoul of the Colombians, whom you can’t treat like they were another little Bubba in your area, to be pushed around by the biggest local Bubba. The firemen put out his burning trailer only to find two bodies within it, which were himself and his twenty-years-younger girlfriend. They were halfway to cremated, that is, burned all over on the outsides, which is referred to inelegantly by our kind of folk as “crispy critters”. The tops of their skulls had blown off, as usually happens when the body gets hot enough for the brain to generate steam. But it could still be seen that their hands were tied with wire behind their backs.

Now they were lying on a great number of bullets any of which could have gone right through them. But they were also surrounded by layers and layers of bullets in the ashes and debris, because this Bubba used to keep dozens of guns and rifles and shotguns loaded on the walls and around for convenient and handy defense and squirrel hunting, and all of them had exploded as they burned up.

So this Bubba and his girlfriend were brought in in an exceedingly charred condition for me to try to perform some kind of autopsy to determine the cause and manner of – What? Dinner’s ready? Back later, friends.

Johnny LA, although he isn’t in LA anymore, since we share some common High Desert experiences and a love of guns and motorcycles, plus I have a passing interest in aviation (kinda hard to avoid, both in my area of living and my area of work). Johnny LA’s thread on Deserts is what brought me out from lurker to poster, as a matter of fact. Uh, everyone can [del]beat[/del] thank him later.

The medical bunch: **QtM **and more recently gabriela. You both have such interesting stories!

Sampiro, of course. What can I say? He makes me laugh and cry.

Campion for telling us like it is - seriously, not many successful, and incredibly rich, litigation lawyers in L.A. would bother would Internet message boards, and then give considered and insightful advice - in excellent English!

Once again, roger, your perspicacity has me blushing. And to my faithful manservant who pointed out your post to me – there’ll be a half-day off at Christmas this year for you. With a house staff as large as mine, I suppose I can make do for a few hours with one fewer minion. But us rich lawyers have to keep up appearances.

Campion’s posts are always interesting to me, and helpful in that I can get a bit of insight into what it is my husband the (almost) 2L may be facing.

I hope that my posts have made plain that the law is an incredibly fun way to spend your life. Fortunately, the hours aren’t horrendous, the work is always interesting, and opposing counsel is, simply, a joy to work with. If you have gleaned some other impression from my posts, it is all a lie.

As for me, there are a handful of Dopers whose posts I routinely enjoy, but what I think is truly great is the surprise post – opening up a thread, and reading something by someone I’ve never heard of (or know only vaguely) and being truly tickled by it.
