Just a quick poll and talk about tattoos and regret. Feel free to discuss the topics of tattoos as well.
Do you have a tattoo/s?
How old were you when you received the first one?
How old are you now?
Do you regret it?
If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered?
What is it of?
Where is it?
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’ll go first.
Yes.
My first one was homemade with a pin and ink when I was 12. I’ve been getting others all through life, the last was about 2 years ago.
39
I do wish I hadn’t done the ones when I was 12 but they are light and faded now you can hardly see them. I will end up covering the largest one in a year or two. The “pro” ones I’ve received I do not regret.
N/A
6 and 7) I’ve 3 cherubs done by different artists in different towns on one arm. I will continue this until I have cherubs around the entire arm (perhaps 3 or 4 more). A larger angel is over the cherubs. Right now I have cherub ink from Seattle, SF, Vancouver BC and Victoria BC.
The other arm has a 1950’s era cartoonish jazz band around the arm. This one is done in primary colours. I like this one alot. It looks like a Dave Brubeck album cover.
I plan on getting many more tattoos. I’d like something on my back and perhaps a nice something on my leg. I’ve not decided what yet.
On the topic of regret, most people I know who have tattoos love them. The few who regret them do very soon after they got it (like a year later). Mostly these are tattoos they didn’t think about and got one night on a whim.
2) How old were you when you received the first one? 18
3) How old are you now? 23 (ok, 22. But only for 2 more weeks!)
4) Do you regret it? Absolutely not. Admittedly I can’t see it because of the location, but getting it was an enjoyable experience and I would (and am planning to) do it again.
5) If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered? N/A
6) What is it of? It’s a wyvern, wrapped around a yin yang symbol
7) Where is it? “Tramp Stamp”
8) Anything else you’d like to add? One thing they never tell you - even four years after the fact, the bloody thing itches on hot days. Like a bastard.
No. I’ve thought of getting either a small one on my upper arm or a hand-sized one on my shoulderblade, but haven’t gotten around to it. I’d like to go to a convention or something, see some people work.
Hubby’s got a tattoo on his shoulder and has told me he finds it itches on hot days. When it’s been really hot and sweaty, his tends to feel a little more raised than it does normally. I guess it’s just got to do with how sensitive your skin is or some junk like that.
Just to add as well - my tattoo was pretty spur of the moment, I’d wanted one for ages but hadn’t figured out a design. I’m one of those terrible people who walked into the tattoo parlour, saw a piece of flash I liked and went “I want that one, but with these colours instead of those ones and this bit different”.
My next one, I think is going to be this. Hubby and I are discussing where I should get it done.
Odd. I don’t get that from any of mine. I’ve also never heard anyone else say this.
Let’s add that to the questions.
Question 9: Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
To the point of more raised… All my lighter colours are raised more then the blacks. The yellows are the highest. I’m told white inks are microscopically larger in size and will cause more scaring, causing the raised skin. On all my tattoos I only have one small section of raised black ink. Why? Not sure.
How old were you when you received the first one? 24 or 25
How old are you now? 41
Do you regret it? I don’t regret it, but I wish now that it wasn’t there. It has faded terribly and I am not sure I want to go in and get it re-inked. It isn’t a priority.
If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered? Not at this time.
What is it of? Black panther
Where is it? Right shoulder
Anything else you’d like to add? **I don’t really think about it much. Once in awhile I glimpse it in a mirror, but otherwise it is covered up. I never wear strapless tops and most tank tops cover it, so it is never in view. **
How old were you when you received the first one? 40
How old are you now? 42
Do you regret it? Nope, and I plan to have more work done.
If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered? n/a
What is it of? On my left ankle there’s a Celtic knot with the words Electus Prosapia (meaning: chosen family) around it - because I’ve always said that friends are the family you get to pick for yourself. Several of my friends and my husband have the same phrase tattooed. On my upper back between my shoulder blades, I have two entwined snakes under a crescent moon, with zodiac symbols above the moon.
Where is it? Oh, oops. Left ankle, upper back.
Anything else you’d like to add? Eventually, my back will be fully covered. I’ve been working on the design for awhile now, and plan to do it in stages. The next phase will be done sometime this coming spring.
I don’t notice that my tats itch anymore than uninked skin, but it’s been kid of dry in the house lately and I itch everywhere anyway.
I have a little tattoo of an anchor on my butt cheek. Got it when I was 25, I’m now 46 and, frankly, the tattoo is the least of the things I regret about my ass.
How old were you when you received the first one?
22 or in the neighborhood, I’m not sure exactly.
How old are you now?
Late 30s
Do you regret it?
Nope.
If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered?
N/A
What is it of?
Celtic-style dragon, the image is from a carving at Kells Cloister
Where is it?
On my right leg, a few inches above the ankle.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’ve noticed I forget about it. Someone at work asked if anyone had any tattoos and some people said yes and some said no and I said no, and then someone else pointed out my tattoo so I had to switch to yes, making me look like either a pathological liar or a complete idiot.
Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
Nope, although I am more paranoid about scratching it – if I get a bug bite in that area, I will not scratch and it’s maddening. I also put stronger sun screen on the tattoo when I’m outside.

4) Do you regret it?**
no 5) If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered?
no 6) What is it of?
the 1 is a cross with 2 roses on it…the .5 was added a year or so ago, text that says “2 Cor. 12:10”
7) Where is it?
Inside of my left ankle/shin
8) Anything else you’d like to add?
I am not sure if mine itches more than usual…it happens to be on an itchy part of my body (legs get dry).
1) Do you have a tattoo/s?
Yes, two. Well, I have two tattoos but I’ve been tattooed three times: the third time was to “fix” something I didn’t like about the first one.
2) How old were you when you received the first one?
22
3) How old are you now?
35
4) Do you regret it?
Nope.
5) If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered?
N/A
6) What is it of?
The first one is of a G-clef, the second one is a howling wolf.
7) Where is it?
The G-clef is on my right ankle; the wolf is on my upper left arm.
8) Anything else you’d like to add?
Just that if you are at all unsure about getting a tattoo, don’t.
9) Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
Nope. I’ve never heard this, either.
My mother got a tattoo on her ankle when she was about 30. It’s an “ankle bracelet” with feathers dangling down toward her heel. She’s now 46.
She regrets it. She tells me that she feels like she can never wear a dress with normal nylons-- she always has to wear thick tights to cover the tattoo.
I have 6 tattoo’s and I only regret getting one of them but it got covered up. I have a rose w/a lightning bolt through it on my upper chest, I have a heart with a dagger through it w/a drop of blood on the end, where I won’t say. Then on my right upper arm is a tribal rose and before it said sexy bitch and those words got covered up w/a rose each. That’s the one I regret getting the words put on. Then I have a HUGE panther on a dagger w/ fire, clouds, blood on my left hip down my thigh almost to the top of my knee from the side. Pretty big! Then I have a gecko w/footprints on my lower left ankle down to the top of my foot. Then my all time fav. a fire fairy w/a dragon guarding her with clouds around her a moon in the sky and rocks/flowers by her feet. It is a sweet tattoo and I had been waiting a long time to get her done. There is probably more but it is on my upper right shoulder and I’d have to look in the mirror. I won’t get any removed. I want to go to Miami to get tattoo’d at Miami Ink. I’m not done getting tattoo’s yet!

4) Do you regret it?**
Not at all. Not even a tiny little bit. 5) If yes, Do you plan on having it removed or covered?
N/A 6) What is it of?
Black ink, approx. 1.25’’ x .5’’, the word “Impermanent” written in Sanskrit. 7) Where is it?
The top of my left wrist, exactly where the face of a watch can cover it up at a moment’s notice. 8) Anything else you’d like to add? #7 is no accident. Put the tattoo somewhere where you can cover it up if you need to. I had the idea for my tattoo two years before I finally got it. I would recommend anyone wait 1-2 years upon deciding what they want and see if they still want it later. I’ve had other tattoo ideas I’m glad I didn’t follow through on. But with my current tattoo, I find that I love it more and more each day.
2) How old were you when you received the first one?
35
3) How old are you now?
37
4) Do you regret it?
No.
6) What is it of?
I wanted something meaningful to celebrate a 70+ lb weight loss. It is a Chinese proverb (4 characters) which means “Dripping water can eat through stone” to remind me of the 100s of tiny changes I have made in my life to make me a healthy, thin person (taking the stairs at work, packing lunches, giving up fast food). To me, it is a beautiful tattoo. A Chinese friend helped me find a really great font, so the characters are lovely.
7) Where is it?
It is about 3.5 inches long, down my spine, beginning about an inch below a typical shirt collar. It is a personal tattoo, intended for just me and I rarely show it.
8) Anything else you’d like to add?
I wanted to do something drastic, something permament. I had lost weight before and had never kept it off. I am now celebrating my 2nd year of maintaining my weight loss, the tattoo is still important to me.
Question 9: Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
No, never noticed this.

What is it of?
It’s a wyvern, just a little tribalized one that was a bit of flash like Sierra Indigo. Thing is, I knew what I wanted but I can’t seem to draw what I see in my head so when I was wandering around with a friend and saw it I decided what the hell and made an appointment.
Where is it?
My left shoulderblade
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’d do it again, but I want to design a better one this time instead of just getting any ole flash. Again, I know what I want I just need to carefully draw it or find someone to draw it for me as I’m unlikely to find the design as a bit of flash.
I actually knew I wanted a tattoo from a fairly young age, about 11ish and my Dad tried to talk me out of it. What I wanted change a few times between then and actually getting a tattoo, but when I wanted the same thing for a couple of years I thought I was ready to get one. So I did. Dad didn’t disown me like he’d threatened.
Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
Not that I’ve noticed. I scratch there when it gets itchy, but not anymore than anywhere else and the skin isn’t raised. Most of the time I forget it’s there unless my son pokes at it (if I’m wearing a tank top) or I catch sight of it in the mirror.
2) How old were you when you received the first one?
33
3) How old are you now?
41
4) Do you regret it?
Not a bit.
6) What is it of? / 7) Where is it?
The first is an Eye of Horus beside my left shoulder blade.
The second is a Hammer of Thor on my right upper arm.
The third is an ankh below my left collar bone.
8) Anything else you’d like to add?
I waited 5 years between when I decided what I wanted for the first one and when I actually had the ink done. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to get tired of the idea.
All 3 of mine are concealed by any clothing that fits my office dress code, which was intentional.
I do slightly regret the placement of the first, but only because it’s very difficult for me to see it. I don’t regret getting the tattoo at all, but I do wish it were easier for me to look at it.
Question 9: Do you find your tattoo itches more than other skin?
Nope, not at all.
Anything else you’d like to add? You mean more tattoos? Yes, I have a few ideas I’d like to do one day. I’m in no hurry though. I’ll get to it when I do.
