Dopers Outside the USA: What Do You Call A Bong (Water Pipe for Smoking Marijuana)

What do you - or the locals where you live - call a bong?

Bong in Australia

And “bong” in Britain too.

To be fair, a Hooka/Argilah / Nargile /Qaylan (and similar sounding names all over Asia and North Africa. ) is just a bong but with the breathing hose attached… Not sure why they have to be described differently and ascribed to different cultures.

Since the OP is asking for personal experiences, let’s move this to IMHO.

Spain, the little ones you can hold in your hand are pipas (like for tobacco) and the big ones nargilés.

Shisha pipe, hookah, or nargile (former Egyptian resident here, not much of an Arabic speaker).

Pipe or pyp (pronounced peɪp ) for small handhelds (originally used for the traditional broken bottleneck pipe used for smoking dagga(weed)+Mandrax('ludes) - known as a White Pipe).

Hubbly-bubbly for larger ones (also used to refer to Hookahs)

I rolled some extra large, cylindrical joints and shared them with friends from different lands. I called them cones. A U.K. friend was shocked it wasn’t a cannabis/tobacco mix and said he’d call it a spliff. A dude from Mali smiled broadly and said, bazoooooka, man.

Also, bong terminology has become high tech. I’m old-school, but I hear people discussing percs, sidecars, and all kinds of other terms. Then again, they’re spending $500 on glassware.

In County Cork, I’ve only heard it referred to as a “bong”.

A friend of mine is married to a guy from Germany. She tells me that he was aghast the first time she rolled him a J and it was just pot. Apparently Europeans like to mix their doob with tobacco.

“Bang” in France French.

Caribbeans also IME. I was smoking with a guy at a beach bar and got a speedy thing happening along with my buzz. I eventually figured out it was the nicotine.

I was in a garage yesterday. On the counter they had a box of “miniature glass hookahs.” I said to the guy behind the counter, “Last time I used one of those it was called a bong.” He laughed.

It is called a bong here in Canada.

I thought the entire reason it was called a joint was that it was a mixture (joining) of two plants.
