The trouble is that he’s still posting to the damn thing, and he’s attempting to spin the discussion so that he comes off looking like less of an idiot (it’s not working). I agree that we should all try and restrain ourselves from content free swipes at him (I’m as guilty as most in that thread…far more than Bryan Ekers). But when he’s quoting me (without links to the actual post and just snippets of the conversation) I’m going to respond and at least point out the spin (which I just did).
I think that this particular thread jumped the shark long ago, and that the Mods should have closed it down since it’s obvious that the OP is just bumping it to get a rise. The Mods obviously disagree, so when he bumps it 'dopers are going to respond, even if it’s just to continue to ridicule this idiot.
Well, we could try. I’m game to restrain myself from posting to that thread for the duration, despite whatever silly bullshit he comes up with next…the post I just made will be my last one in there. I’m not sure you can get everyone on board with that, and to me the optimal choice would be to have the Mods close it, and if any rational 'dopers wish to discuss the ongoing crisis in Japan or maybe a general discussion about nuclear power, they should open a thread in GD (not the freaking Pit).
I fully appreciate the desire to jump in and clarify the situation when a douche like FX seems to be deliberately misrepresenting your position, but no-one making an honest assessment of that thread would give any credence to his lunatic rantings, so i don’t think you need to worry that it makes you look bad.

That was one thing that i thought might make the thread useful. If a thread like that serves to contain a drooling moron like FX to a single location, it can actually serve a worthwhile purpose on a board like this.
The problem is that he’s started to branch out and troll elsewhere. Now that he’s spreading his stupidity more widely, there’s no motivation to keep the nuclear thread alive anymore.
Yeah, he bumped that zombie to bitch about this thread instead of, you know, bitching in this Pit thread or his blog Pit thread. If that’s not trolling, its at least thread-shitting or something else that should be officially discouraged.
Of course if you close the thread, nuclear energy will become safe again.
There are Fukushima updates in lots of places. The story does not die because the plant is still a festering nuclear sore on the earth. There are new readings and continual updates. This is expected to last about 10 years.
OK, I was all right with the thread hanging around for a few months, but if it’s going to be there for ten years, I support taking more aggressive action.
