Most of my IRL friends are little interested in the internet to start with. Strange, because they’re mostly all online but they don’t use it as a social tool. Quite a few of them would make great Dopers, but I’d never be able to drag them in the door here. They just don’t understamd the attraction, I have given up trying to explain it, and I’m not sure I want real life friends here anyway. It’d almost be incestuous in some weird way. Meeting people I knew here first is fine, but not the other way.

Considering there are only some 2500 subscribers, quite a few people know other dopers in real life. I don’t remember which thread I read the number of subscribers to the board. Methinks I’ll do a search. Anyone have any clue to the exact number?

I was introduced to the dope by Velma who has been a friend of mine for about 13 years. She was talking about it one night and I checked it out when I got home. I have read here regularly since then.
