Actually, I was bugged by the same thing. (Lisa just isn’t period.)
ETA: not that the show ever strove to be period. . .
I would definitely do something like this, for the record. Of course, I live about forty minutes from Manhattan, so it’d be easy for me.
Much the same as my response to the play. “Get a job you hippies!” 
That was beautiful. I came in here to say those precise words. It’s like you’re in my head.
I’ll add Collins to the list of likable characters, though. The rest of them range from irritating, like Joanne, to despicable, like Maureen. The one we’re supposed to get all choked up and upset about dying is the least likable of all. Angel killed a stranger’s dog in exchange for money. But it’s okay, because he spent it on a party for the “good guys”! What the hell?
I’d be up for that!

Faves: Evita, Phantom, Curtains, Spamalot, Les Miserables, Pippin, Magic Show, Baker’s Wife, Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, Avenue Q, ABBAcadabra, Mamma Mia!, Chess, and Jeeves/By Jeeves (Oh, to have Fry & Laurie do the last one).
Not-so-Faves: Rent, Lestat, Dance of the Vampire, Young Frankenstein, Dude, Pirate Queen.
Did you see “Young Frankenstein” already? Not so good? That’s disappointing. I was really hoping for something fun, at least.
Dude? Wow, I’m going to have to look that one up. NEVER heard of it.
Dude was done by the same guys as Hair. Hopeless mess of a show. Not even so bad as to be redeeming like Carrie or Dance of the Vampire.
Young Frankenstein came to Broadway a mess, but I understand some of the crap has been worked into a watchable show. I saw it in previews, so it may have mproved since then.
I forgot to mention how much I despised “Spring Awakening” which got the Best Musical Tony last season. When I went to get the tickets and the guy was saying “this is a show about honosexuality, incest, masturbation and sexual abuse,” I was wondering why I would want to see a show that sounded like my disfunctional family.
