"Dorkstorm"- Top 10 Geekiest Hobbies with corresponding Public Humiliation index

I know a lot of SCA folk, and when they’re not doing their strange little reenactment thing they seem to have decent social skills as a whole. SCA people, much like engineers, also mitigate their dorkiness with their incredible party skills. I’ve been to one of their parties. Woah! I don’t think anybody could see straight by the end of the night.

City of Heroes qualifies. I’ve seen what those games can do to people–they’re like crack!

At one time or another in my life I’ve been into five of those ten hobbies. Now I’m married and have two kids. Evidently I have buried my past deeply indeed.

Though sometimes, when the fit takes me, I still dig out the old comic book collection. My wife has learned not to inquire too closely when I do such things.

No ham no foul.
As for Trekkers and sex lives, haven’t you ever heard, “It’s all green on the inside” …?

I only got one: Everquest. And it’s gotten me laid on more than one occasion. Should that be frightening?

One occasion was my husband. The other was my ex-fiance. Not in that order.

I should go to Vegas…

I’m not involved with any of those things, and still I get nothing. Obviously I am doing something else horribly wrong.

I’ll be at the gym staring at the cheerleaders if anyone needs me.

I play table top Mage and Star Wars.

So according to that I shouldn’t get lucky a fraction as often as I do.

Might have something to do with being a female geek.

I get full credit for Trek and partial credit for comics and RPGs and am trying to decide if I should include LARPing as well. While not technically the same, backyard wrestling is pretty damned close.

‘Klaatu Barada Nicto’ = geek for “I do,” then?

That irony was intentional, right?

Laugha while you can, monkey-boy!

I’m just glad they didn’t include online Diplomacy.

Oh Lord, I have commited cardinal geekery #1. A weekend at Treasure Trap in Cheshire, 21 years ago. And I mock Trekkies, too. The hypocrisy. :frowning:

I collect photographs of lost gloves. Top that.

I’m disappointed, immensely. Model Railroading must be mainstream…

Wouldn’t you count SCA and RenFaire as examples of #1, LARP?

Sure, I can be blase about it – because my score is ZERO ZERO ZERO!

So how come I’m still a nerd?

I’ve gotten laid more than once by speaking Esperanto.

I’m a LARPer and got laid last week.

I swear!

Who? Oh it was this girl from Canada.

You wouldn’t know her.

Ahhh, I remember the summer I spent in Shorshenblorg Borshchortle.

Good times.

Are you sure you belong here?

5 out of 10, and why the hell is scrapbooking on the list? It doesn’t seem to fit.

Just comics and Star Trek for me, and the Trek thing isn’t as strong as it was when I was 15.

They did forget message boarding though.
