Dorkstorm: The Annihilation -The ten geekiest hobbies via Fark
Very funny.
It’s true. I could never have a healthy sex life until I dropped Magic: The Gathering and D&D like hot potatoes.
An oldie-but-goodie:-
What the heck are…“furries”?
I’m deeply disappointed that my own embarrasing hobby, the Society for Creative Anachronism, didn’t make the cut. We are twice the embarrassing geeks that the card-players are, darn it! Do they wear codpieces in public? I think not.
You might think so, but judging by the reaction of the teenage girls to the sweaty, stripped to the midriff buff young “warriors” at the last Celtic Festival, you don’t peg the “humiliation/no sex” meter hard enough to be in the running. Eveyone loves swordfights and bashing with weapons! What’s not to like?
They’re there…over on the left. Next to the Ren Faire folk.
sigh
7 out of 10.
I’m just glad I married Lady Chance before she figured out what I meant when I said ‘Klaatu Barada Nicto’.
What, no Anime Otaku? Gee, you would figure that when a fandom gets to the point of slovenliness that a maker of collectable figurines actually sells them embedded in bars of soap, there would be some higher embarassment/strikeout factor.
It includes obsessive trivia geekiness, compulsive collection, hygiene, costumes; vicious factional ideological wars (dubs/subs); it even contains elements of gaming, RPG and LARP; AND it features truly bad cross-dressing (one thing I seldom saw at a ST con…)
Then again it has a bunch of girls in shortie schoolgirl uniforms and kitty ears, so I guess they figured it has redeeming value…
Are you saying you fit in the seventh category of that list, or seven of the categories on that list?
:dubious:
Geez, only five out of ten… I must be slipping. 4, since I’m a recovering CCGer. Unless City of Heroes qualifies for Everquest, in which case I’m up by one.
I don’t play Everquest. I do, however, play Gemstone, which is a multiplayer text RPG. Think of it as the old Infocom text adventures (Zork, Enchanter, etc.) only with other people…and randomized encounters.
Both Star Wars and Star Trek offend my sensibilities as a serious SF/fantasy fan. However, some of the episodes and movies are fun to watch, even though I frequently get jarred out of the suspension of disbelief.
I used to play M:tG, but frankly, I suck at it. My packrat tendencies force me to include just about every good card I possess, without caring whether or not it fits into the battle deck as a whole. I just can’t play two-color decks!
I don’t do scrapbooking, and I’m not a vampire, nor do I pretend that I drink blood. Hmmm. No, I don’t need any new hobbies right now.
Ahh nuts, they’re on to me.
I hope this refers to current activities. If this site was talking about “at-one-point-or-another”, then I’m screwed.
What? No mention of PC modding?
No ham radio either?
I didn’t start roleplaying until AFTER I met my boy.
Pay close attention to the sig.
I read this at just the right time: earlier today I was Game Mastering a Star Wars RPG that featured Anzati (Star Wars equivalent of vampires) and long running joke about Ewoks and Wookiees having sex. On my way home I was considering putting up a web page of the campaign, essentially an online scrapbook. So according to this, I won’t be having any sex for my next several lifetimes. Of course I should have realized that when a friend interrupted the game to ask if I’d be his wingman at the club tonight and I replied, “not right now, Zallbaraw only has two rounds of Rage left”
Guilty of:
-Comic Books
-Star Wars
-Star Trek (only the original series)
-Everquest (haven’t played in over a year but there’s no such thing as a former eq addict, only a recovering eq addict.)
That’s 4 out of 10, surprised I didn’t score a little higher.
