Dotting the tops of fruit pies with butter

devilsknew, if you want to rant about the left and dietary politics, do it in The BBQ Pit. Your posts so far have had nothing to do with the thread topic.

I like butter and am extraordinarily fat. What was the question?

No, I’ve just seen antique cook books. I’m surprised I’ve lived as long as I have.

It’s a aesthetic thing.

Butter helps to prevent cooked fruits from foaming (which I discovered this weekend while flipping through and using my canning cookbook… it’s all scientific and everything and tells me that if I don’t want the fruit to foam, which I then have to skim off, I should add butter).

Never added the butter. Always put the pie in the oven, thought “shee-it, I forgot the butter,” thought “fuck it, I’m not reaching back in there,” and went on my merry way.

My pies are nevertheless tasty.

Ever hear the saying, “Butter makes everything better.”?

Well, it’s not just a saying.

I’m sure you can get away with it, but you are cheating …making glorious, butterless, cheaters pie.
