Double (or more) concert bills that would have been great but never happened, that you know of

For me, the ultimate combination of music acts that never, to my knowledge, performed together and should have would have been Rush and King’s X.

Can anyone else think of something similar?

Billie Holiday and Hank Williams.

John Coltrane
Mozart
Miles Davis
Jimi Hendrix

1965 Rolling Stones opening for 1965 Beatles.

That would be quite a quadruple bill, but maybe this thread should be limited to artists who are/were alive and performing at the same time.

That would be the 1965 NME Poll Winner’s All Star Concert. The line up: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Animals, The Kinks, Herman’s Hermits, Moody Blues, Them, Cilla Black, The Seekers and Donovan.

Lou Rawls
Ted Nugget
Culture Club
Motorhead

All doing a group finale at the he end.

A youthful Adele opening for Amy Winehouse.

Graham Parker opening for Dexys Midnight Runners

Could turn out to be two epic battles. I specified Graham Parker opening for a reason: the other way round would imply a time when DMR were just starting out. I saw them in the early days and they were awful. So I envisage DMR in their pomp supported by GP.

j

Doug Stanhope opening for a stand up show that had Louis CK and George Carlin as the two main acts.

Some prog double bills that would be something to see:

Pink Floyd and King Crimson

Genesis and The Moody Blues

Yes and ELP

Yes and Rush at Red Rocks. On a cool fall day.

The Stooges opening for the MC5. (could easily have happened, but never did as far as I know)

At which time in their careers, and in the case of Yes, with which lineup?

That’s quite a Venn diagram, personnel-wise!

Cream, The Jeff Beck Group, and The New Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin with Clapton, Beck and Page jamming on an encore before Page began his way to completely being in his own world like he was at the 1983 ARMS concert!

Deep Purple and ELP. With Dream Theater as an opening act.

Oh wait, I actually saw that in 1997 or so.

Yeah, not what you’re looking for. But it’s what I thought of.
