Double Posters, get over it.

I was ranting all right? And I’m not at my most lucid when I’m grotpummulated.

Sorry, that’s grotpummilated.

Well, I actually agree with the OP, FW that’s W. It’s dumb to post, “Gee, I dunno how that happened.” We all KNOW how that happened–you clicked on Submit twice, either because you’ve got a nervous mouse finger, or because you didn’t believe that your post was going through when the window just hung there while the hamsters thought it over, so instead of clicking on Refresh or Preview to see if your post went through, you clicked on Submit again.

And whether the double post was truly accidental or simply dumbassness, it’s silly to post an “oops”. When we see double posts, we all know what happened. Don’t say “oops”, too.

What’s your stance on typo corrections?

Not all double posts are the result of the user hitting the button twice. When the boards are really slow, they’ll sometimes hiccup and double post all on their own (cue spooky Scooby Doo music)

I still think posting a follow-up message just to say “I didn’t mean to double post, sorry!” is about as lame as lame can be. Of course, I also hate people who follow-up with typo corrections. And people who drive slow in the left lane. And black people. And people who breathe in really loud through their nose, then out through their mouth. And people who own reptiles. And people who eat at Arby’s. And people who always post their sigs.

I’d say that it depends on what the typo is. If you missed a “not” and changed the meaning of an entire sentence, go right ahead. If you wanted to inform the world that you do know that is isn’t spelled “paralell”, then **NO[(b].

Speaking of which, the “Oops, I messed up the coding” posts are annoying too. Yeah, it’s good that you told us that you made a mistake and made half your post bold, otherwise we might’ve thought it was intentional.

Only a total asshole would double post.

Only a total assshole would double post.

Oops! I didn’t mean to mess up the coding on that.

I agree dumbguy.

Boy, some folks get peeved VEeeerrreeeeeeeee easily around here.

I pretty much smile at, and then move on when I read an “oops I double posted” or “oops I typo-ed (sp?)” posts. So what if someone posts that? How does that hurt anyone? How is it different from someone correcting themselves during a verbal conversation? Or does that drive you batty too?

That those posts drive some of you to such intense anger and aggravation is a bit odd.

**NOTE! That is NOT to say you can’t post your rants about such aggravations (as I’m sure 500 dopers will rush in to say here), I’m just saying, I personally, find that it’s kind of strange for people to get that annoyed at such a tiny little thing.

To everyone who’s double posted in this thread and thinks they’re being funny: you’re not.

must… resist… urge to double post this

i think it’s all the hampsters’ fault.

all this spring weather, they either have allergies or are celebrating spring break with coctails while on the job.

bad hampsters, bad! someone needs to slip them an antihistamine.

or, it could be SARS, the hampsters have SARS! the virus is mutating, here, at SMDB, the horror, i better shut this thing off now and find an onion to put in my coke now!

Oooh! Oooh! Mr. Kotter!

Can I go to the bathroom? I have to double post.
