Lately, I’ve had several instances of two email notifications appearing in my mailbox, both containing the same post. But when I check the thread, there’s only one new post. Are double posts deleting automatically? That’d be great if it’s true!
More likely, you’re just getting duplicates of the e-mail notification.
Depending on the area, we might also have some more vigilant moderating; a new broom sweeps clean, you know. 
But yes, it’s quite possible the system is hiccupping and sending multiple emails; I’ve seen that myself, two email notifications that are exactly the same.
