I just noticed something new today. I typically receive 2 notifications of new posts each time one happens. Why 2? Don’t know, but 2 has been “normal” for a long time.
Besides the numerous timeouts and slowness today, I have been receiving MORE THAN TWO emails for each notification. The duplicates have the same time stamp, and they are exact copies. At 11:01AM Chicago time today, I received 6 notifications of one post. Since then, each notification has been duplicated from 3 to 4 times.
TubaDiva, does this observation make any sense to our (nonexistent) techies?
My email inbox is now getting flooded with multiple, duplicate notices in the last hour. Anyone else have this happen?
I’ll see if they can reset the mail server.

I just received 16 notifications of a single post, with the same time stamp (12:15PM). Is this just me or is anyone else getting stuff like this?
Nothing else in my email inbox is getting duplicated except SDMB.

Is this still going on? I did report the problem.

I was receiving multiple notices for a few hours after I posted, but this has been reduced to the “normal” 2 at a time now. I still don’t know why I should get 2, but this has been going on for years. Maybe my email addr exists somewhere on SDMB as a duplicate. I’d be interested in hearing if anyone else has this problem.
Maybe this is a parallel universe and the Musicat on the other side is complaining he never gets his email. His little goatee twitches with aggravation.

That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.
In the last 8 hours, I have received either 2 or 3 email notices for each post with the same timestamp each time.
Was it an extremely noteworthy post?
I’m guessing that it’s the same phenomenon that causes double posts (whatever that is).
Hardly. 
I don’t see a direct connection. Double posts are usually caused by the server accepting a post, but displaying an error instead of the post, causing the poster to think that it didn’t go thru. The poster tries again, and again, it is accepted, but not displayed. This continues until the poster gets tired of the game or sees one or more of his posts displayed.
Email from the automatic notify function isn’t something a user can trigger. All of the duplicate emails pointed to the same post and had an identical timestamp.
I do think that there may be some larger, fundamental flaw in the system that causes many problems – maybe that’s what you meant.
