I think you tried to read the post wrong. Maybe I should have phrased it, for example, “I have read matter ranging from Ralph Ellison to Asimov to Brunvand.” I did indeed read Ellison ’ s entire book–in a college course, as I already said. As a junior in high school, in spring 1966, I read Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck–in one evening.
The more current authors whose books I have are Brunvand and David Feldman. I have countless tomes bought in places such as Barnes & Noble.

Oooooh, Barnes & Noble! That’s hard core! How about Amazon? I hear they’re *really *cutting edge!
OK, here is what you said before:
You thought Archie comics and Mad Magazine were worth mentioning over Asimov and Brunvand. You were pretty specific with your *range *of reading matter here. How did I read it wrong?
Are you seriously proud of the fact that you read Steinbeck 48 years ago? We’re trying to pull you forward to the present day. Brunvand is a folklorist who writes about urban legends, and David Feldman is a comedy writer. Not exactly synonymous with current events, but it’s a start I guess.
Novels are not, and never have been, my cup of tea, although my Mom is an avid reader of them. I have other books of nonfiction, which is what I meant by “countless tomes.” About half are by contemporary authors, including Cecil Adams.
(In a college course–not the one mentioned earlier–I scored 100 on an exam on the literature section, to my delight and surprise. I commented to the professor that I hadn’t expected this, and he said, "Well, maybe you had this ability and didn’t realize it. " :))
JW’s do not believe in higher education. After all, the end days are coming soon (for the past 100+ years) and you don’t need college to be riding unicorns and farting rainbows.
Well, I have–UCLA and USC. You are obviously just expressing your own opinion.
Well, I didn’t attend a university. I attended, and graduated from, El Camino Community College in Torrance, CA, in the Class of 1986. I had taken classes as far back as 1968, the year after I graduated from high school.
Good for your mom. Maybe she knows what facials and selfies are.
In case you haven’t noticed, just about everyone in the SDMB went to college too. A lot of them even graduated. A good number have post-graduate degrees as well. None of them are likely to be impressed by your accolades of getting 100 on an exam over 40 years ago. You can be the most educated man in the world, but we’re still going to think you’re an isolated 12-yr old if you keep acting that way.
