Down, Netscape! DOWN, boy!

OK, I’m on the verge of getting busted at work. We just migrated to Windows 2000 and Netscape (I upgraded to 6.0) has picked up the annoying habit of maximizing the window when the screen has finished loading. Obviously this has some interesting results if I minimize while I’m loading an SDMB thread 'cos my boss comes in.

How can I fix Netscape so it stays minimized no matter what?

This might work… See if you have TweakUI for Win2000. It should be in the control panel. (If not, it’s available here.) In TweakUI, there is a General tab. At the bottom of that tab, there is an option that says “Prevent applications from stealing focus”. I think you want that checked. There might be some other way to get to this setting, but I don’t know what it is.

If that doesn’t help, I would blame Netscape 6. I don’t have that problem using 4.7 on Win2000.

I don’t have 6 to try it but did you try to minimize it first & from there, close it? Then it should open as minimized.

I’ve experienced a similar phenomenon in NS4.71 under Win98. It did the same thing as what Olentzero described, except it wasn’t minimised when it was loading the pages, I just had another app (Outlook) above it.

Quite annoying. I haven’t had any luck running NS6 under either 98 or Win2000. From what I understand, NS6 is very unstable on 2000, but I’ve found that same instability with 98, too.

Anyway, I’ve uploaded the Win2000 TweakUI powertoy for ya. Good luck.

If you have the Netscape icon on your desktop, this might work. Right click the icon, then click the Shortcut tab.
At the bottom where it says Run, click the arrow and choose Minimized.

Oops, that should have read “right click the icon, choose Properties, then click the shortcut tab”
