Down the memory hole: Has Libertarian been banned?

LHoD, gex: That makes sense. I hadn’t been exposed any logical proof of God’s existance.

Granted, I’m a bit odd, but Tuba-My-Love allowed me to take a sabbatical for about a year then I was reinstated moments after she got my email requesting it. Some people have more willpower than I but I found that the only way I could get away from here and STAY away was by making it so that I had to stay away.

In the past when someone took a sabbatical they had to be banned, leading to “Why was So-And-So banned?” threads. The newer way allows people like me to vanish for a while (though it never prompted a “Where’s dropzone?” thread :frowning: ) without the mods or admins having to explain it.

I, too, had to take a self-imposed sabbatical. The issue was that my emotions were riding too high for SDMB- and non-SDMB related issues; I was becoming very aggressive and borderline-inappropriately abusive, and felt that if I didn’t step back and handle the current issues in my life I wouldn’t retain my posting privileges. However, the SDMB had been such a large part of my life that unless I couldn’t post, it was pure habit to post and I would spiral away into BANNEDdom.

Hopefully, I’m a better man all around for it, but I won’t expect that judgment to be universal.

ALTERNATIVE (TINFOIL) THEORY:

  1. Libertarian gets sick of the board and wants to be with the cool kids on the other forum.
  2. Libertarian, being a drama whore with a martyr complex, wants to go out with a bang.
  3. Libertarian tries to provoke Lynn into banning him ( for his radical ideas about freedom of expression  )
  4. Lynn doesn’t want to give Libertarian the satisfaction of a banning which he can use as proof of how fascistic the moderators are, and simply deletes Libertarians attempt to dramawhore.
  5. Libertarian, realising that his plan has been foiled, just asks to be banned instead.
  6. Libertarian claims to be banned for his radical ideas about freedom of expression. Cool kids at other forum are impressed.
  7. Mecha Stalin rises from his grave and tries to get into the next season of Survivor.

Dryga_Yes: For your number 3 to work, you’d need to assume that Libertarian thought that `free expression’ needed to exist on private property. That is not a Libertarian philosophy: If you own a MB, you can run it as a Stalinist state modulo forcing people to participate. That is a Libertarian idea and that is, indeed, what Lib said a few times on this MB.

Your analysis may be correct, but not for the reasons you posit.

I never said that he considered it his god-given right to post hate speech here, just that he wanted freedom of expression here.

Or rather, that he considered a message board with hate speech rules to be “below” him.

Or that hate speech rules on message boards was something just inane enough that he could make a big deal about it and start getting self-righteous

He was (is) a drama queen and talked to hear himself talk. He’s a waste of great intelligence. I hope he doesn’t ask to come back. After his ‘look-at-me, I’m so OPPRESSED’ bullshit that he used to introduce himself over there, I think it would be foolish to let the man back anyway. That post clear has delusions of grandeur and silly resentment all throughout. Good riddance, pompous buffoon.

I have no desire to interfere with folks doing the traditional dance on the grave of the departed that is such a popular ritual, here, (and on other boards). However, I suspect that there are a sufficiency of (useless) folks posting on both boards (along with numerous other boards) who have delusions of grandeur and silly resentments. Regardless whether Lib actually suffered from those disorders, I think that you could simply rejoice in his absence without demanding that the Administration take further steps to make you happy.

Since the OP has been answered and we’ve had plenty of time for kibitzers, I am locking this thread.
