This morning I tried to go to the Straight Dope front page (www.straightdope.com). After typing that into my browser, a little window popped up asking if I wanted to download a file called ‘straightdope’ of an unspecified type. When I said no, my browser stopped and I was left looking at my homepage. What’s the scoop? Was the front page hacked? Am I the only one this happened to?
I got that message, too, several times in the recent past. Dunno what it was all about so I just ignored it and came back to visit this site later. Haven’t noticed it lately though.
Try clearing your browser cache; the last time this happened to me that’s what did the trick.
Something to do with the banner ad misbehaving, if I remember correctly.
