Downloading StraightDope forum pages?

I like to download and save webpages to read later or as a reference. I’ve noticed that when I download a straightdope thread it only saves part of it? Am I doing something wrong or is this just how the website functions? Thank you.

A thread is only loaded in chunks. It’s sort of like when the old board would load one page at a time, except they are pages stacked on top of each other. If you slowly scroll through all the posts to let them load into your browser, you might be able to save the whole thread at once (but no guarantees; I’ve never tried it).

I thought that may be the solution but it still only saves a bit of the thread, thanks anyway!

According to this page, you can print the Topic (thread) as a PDF, and it will load the whole thing. I know Chrome lets you do this natively from the Print dialog.

Oh excellent! Thank you

Looks like you can control-P to bring up the print dialog, but then hit cancel, and you’re left with an ordinary web page but without the infinite-scroll stuff. You can then control-S that and save the full page. No need for print-to-PDF or anything.

I had thought that might work. It did when I just added /print to the URL of any thread.

It would be nice if Ctrl-S would also pull up this static HTML version of the thread, but with a save dialog instead of a print dialog.
