Other websites are saying that this guy was a rapper who used the name “MathBoi Fly” and posting some really doozy screenshots from social media, You Tube, and elsewhere. If the things I’m seeing are correct, it appears that he was trying to kill as many white people as possible.
Has this link been posted in this thread yet? I thought I saw it … somewhere … This is the guy they have in custody (as a “person of interest”?) The guy has a rap sheet and several open cases against him. No suspected connection to Rittenhouse case.
Aha! I was wondering where it went. So I went and undid your undo.
From the article, it sounded like the main thing that wasn’t confirmed was if he is really who he said he is. But the article didn’t say who he is – just who he said he is.
I remember this tragedy in October, 2015. It’s very similar to what happened at the Christmas parade. Except we don’t know the motive for today’s tragedy.
From that Wiki page, it’s not clear that they know a motive for the 2015 event either. It says her blood-alcohol was 0.01, too low to be a likely factor. No other factor or motive is mentioned.
I don’t know anything about fentanyl and would generally assume it to be axiomatic that anything said by Fox is wrong. But subject to those caveats, alcohol is also a depressant and plenty of people have done atrocious things while drunk.
In the video I saw I saw no indication that the SUV slowed down at all - the driver just kept going through/over/under people.
If it was an accident/mistake I would have expected the vehicle to slow down/stop because that’s what decent people do after an accident. If it was a “medical episode” I’d expect less control and NOT driving away under apparent control.
With the usual caveat of my opinion subject to change with more information, at this point it looks deliberate to me.
The specific drugs they mention may be wrong, but a seriously altered mental state seems the likely explanation for the bizarre driving sequence. Drugs or perhaps psychosis? Not completely out of control like someone medically incapacitated, not maximizing mayhem and death like a terrorist, but someone apparently in control of the car making a series of inexplicable decisions.
I was once driving very tired-- sleep-deprived. I stopped for a green light. My brain just processed “light = stop,” not the color. I was lucky on two counts: one was that no one was behind me, and the other was that I didn’t run a red light instead. Doing that jolted me into being awake, though.
I’m just saying, it doesn’t take a heavy dose of drugs, or a serious illness to be altered.
It could have been sleep-deprivation, or it could have been something like a diabetic with low blood sugar. I have hypoglycemia, and have had low blood sugar incidents, where I am processing some things just fine, and others not at all–for example, I can walk to a familiar place, but can’t remember why I was going there, if it wasn’t something routine. And my speech sounds perfectly normal, but I give weird answers to questions.
This seems more plausible than just sleep deprivation. As you say, sleep deprivation might explain a couple of crazy maneuvers, but you tend to jolt yourself awake and slam on the brakes. This was sustained.
I just played the video. I hear a lot of people speaking Spanish. It that just a coincidence, or is either the parade itself, or the neighborhood that was, pardon the expression, “hit,” Hispanic?
Moderating: no political snipes are allowed in breaking news threads in this forum. And without a citation, that is very much a race-baiting political snipe. Even your claims get reported by legitimate news media, please take it outside MPSIMS, as there’s no way to discuss that without getting political.
In the CNN article it says the vehicle may have been “fleeing another incident.” That’s not at all the same as a high speed chase. None of the other videos show a police vehicle pursuing or a police vehicle at all. The only videos I have seen show police officers on foot.
If you mean “accident” as in “hit several large animals” then I agree. It looks like it ran through a herd of deer. Or people. Which is what one would expect the suspect vehicle to look like after driving through a parade.
If you mean to put it forward as evidence that the vehicle may have been fleeing an earlier accident, then I don’t think we can conclude that yet without a before/after photo (that is before he drove into the parade and hit a bunch of people).
