Dozens injured in Waukesha, WI at Christmas parade: Nov 2021 [update: 6 dead, over 40 injured][update: trial]

Either way, “kills and terrorizes, and then backs car into driveway so damage is visible” is weird (I’m not saying there’s anything to it, it’s just weird). Maybe he thought he was hiding bullet holes in the back. Or maybe he just always backs his car in.

Identifying the car won’t be difficult. There will be a lot of blood evidence underneath that can be tested.

Latest press items mention the POI “may” have been fleeing another earlier crime scene, though was not being actively chased.

I’m pretty sure the police already have the vehicle. Or at least …a vehicle was recovered" as one CNN article noted.

So, presumably, it won’t be hard at all for the police to identify the vehicle. If they already have it. And that’s not to say the picture of the SUV with a beat up front isn’t genuine or that it’s not the vehicle involved in the incident. Entirely possible someone was out with their cell phone as police were on their way. Or maybe they’re the ones who called the police.

If the picture is fake or a misrepresentation of a real image of a different SUV, it’s pretty “meh” on the level of things to fabricate. “Person of Interest” already in custody, multiple videos of the actual incident at different times/angles. It’s sensational enough as it is.

I thought it might be worth pointing out that there is far more information in the link from Darryll Brooks that @Senegoid posted in post #43 than I’ve seen anywhere else in the media, which in the meantime has had further updates. By the same token, as the article itself acknowledges, because so much of the info is preliminary, based on things like eyewitness accounts and chatter over police radio, things may change and some of this may turn out to be wrong. I’m sure that there’s a good reason police have been strangely silent so far.

But the rapper Darryll Brooks does seem to be strongly implicated. The name was mentioned in police conversations over the radio, presumably in connection to the arrest. There is a still picture of the SUV going by allegedly taken at the parade scene that shows someone driving who definitely looks like him. He has an extensive criminal record and several felony charges still pending, and recently posted some inflammatory rhetoric on social media. I believe the damaged vehicle was recovered from his address (but I could be wrong about that). The damage in the picture – particularly the oddly crumpled hood – doesn’t look like any ordinary accident damage I’ve ever seen.

Even if it was definitely him, though, there are still a large number of open questions and weirdnesses about this whole thing.

Similar things have happened in my career. Certainly not in this scale. A 911 call would come in for a domestic assault with the suspect leaving the scene in a vehicle, within minutes there is another 911 call about an accident with a car matching the description. Often drugs and/or alcohol were involved.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is now indicating that multiple sources have confirmed that Darrell Brooks Jr. is in custody, and is suspected of being behind the wheel of the SUV yesterday.

The Waukesha Police will be releasing more information this afternoon.

Brooks, not Jones, according to my feeds.

Social media had it right this time. I saw Brooks mentioned on Twitter last night. The media was cautious and waited to verify before reporting.

It is notable that Brooks allegedly has run someone down with a car (after a dispute).

Yes, thanks, Darryll Brooks, not Jones. Too late to edit. I have no idea where “Jones” came from!

And here he is, behind the wheel, yesterday. Photo allegedly taken at the time of the incident.

I edited your post

I liked the world better when I only knew the town because of the Wizard of Waukesha.

If the driver was fleeing some other crime, that would make sense to me. The driver’s behavior was puzzling, it didn’t look either like a deliberate attempt to kill as many people as possible, or some sort of medical issue.

Saying “he didn’t seem erratic enough to be on drugs/in medical distress” is just not a good understanding of how such things work. A person can drive in a straight line but be unaware of where they are or what they’re doing.

Years ago I was driving on a busy stretch of the Northwest Highway in Dallas when a few cars up a car slowed to a stop right in the middle of the highway. It stopped traffic. Then, as I watched in amazement, the man in the car began executing a three-point turn. I and a dozen other drivers got out, ran over, and managed to get in and stop his car. He was in diabetic shock and not acting rationally - but he was in control of the car at all times, even though what he was trying to control it into made no sense. He was also not really aware of the people trying to help him. It was really quite something.

Kudos to you for getting out and doing that, really. I can’t think of many stretches of Northwest Highway where that wasn’t fraught with danger.

Well, given that traffic was at a dead stop and had been for a few minutes, it wasn’t as dangerous as it normally would have been, and it wasn’t just me. You don’t have to be brave to do what a bunch of other guys are doing.

I hope that guy was okay.

I have family who live in Waukesha, and we’ve always joked that we’ll get lost if we come to see them. Waukesha is a warren of narrow, one way streets that dead end or suddenly turn, change name, and become one way going the wrong way. It’s a mess.

So I checked in with my relatives early on, and they said they’re fine, and…

I’ll be interested to hear more details … so far it was someone who was fleeing another incident. I think downtown Waukesha would be the last place I’d head if I was fleeing anything!!

He had been in a “domestic disturbance” minutes before entering the parade route.
Police were not chasing him at that time.
One shot was fired by the police.
Among the dead are four women, aged 52 to 79, and an 81-year-old man.
Five counts of intentional homicide are being filed against Darrell Brooks.

Maybe you had him confused with Darryl Jones, the bassist who has played with the Stones.
