Dozens killed in multiple Easter Sunday blasts in Sri Lanka

What I heard on the news tonight is that two of the churches are Roman Catholic and one Protestant.

Yes. Quite.
10 years ago, such an attack would have been impossible. Obviously, security forces skills are not what they once were.

Its a beautiful place with beautiful and great people. My heart breaks.:frowning:

I read it was suspected to be NTJ, a fringe fundamentalist Muslim group, with a branch in Sri Lanka.

(We were in the early stages of planning a trip to Sri Lanka for Nov. Spent yesterday with a group of people all interested in where we might go next, passionately extolling the wonders and beauties of Sri Lanka. I was absolutely gutted to read the news this morning.)

Apparently formed in 2014 and virtually unknown. One wonders if they’re a violent offshoot of this group. Ugh, just what the world needs - more whackadoo terrorist splinter cells.

I suspect that the target this time wasn’t “christians” so much as “the tourist trade”.

CNN reports that there were detailed warnings about the attacks, with names of suspects, but nothing was done due to Government infighting.

Such a horrible thing to happen with innocent people being the apparent target. Unless being Christian means you are not innocent.
Kudos to most of the world press calling this what it is, an attack by Muslim radicals against Christians.
Here in Canada, our left-leaning CBC reported this and would not call it an attack by Muslims. They described it as a local militant group.
Seems our PM Trudeau won’t allow criticism of Muslims, but he was quick to call out far-rights for the New Zealand attack.

Btw, why is this posted in MPSIMS? There is nothing MUNDANE about this.

Because this is where news events like this normally get posted. It’s not a question, it’s not entertainment related, it’s not someone’s opinion about something, it’s not a rant. That’s just how the boards here were titled, it doesn’t actually mean the topic in question is mundane, this is just the section for the topics that don’t fit elsewhere.
