Now, I don’t know a lot about Dr Phil, so maybe this is already well-known. Apparently, he really, REALLY, has a thing about animals.
A very good friend of mine was at the Pet Expo here in Vancouver this afternoon. It’s being held at the Trade and Convention Centre. Apparently, Dr Phil was also at the T&CC for some kind of show. The quickest way to his car was through the Pet Expo room.
He demanded that some of the displays be curtianed off as he went through, because he couldn’t stand to look at the animals! I’m not even talking tarantullas here, I mean petting zoo animals.
I think any trust I had in his advice just dropped like a rock. What gets me even more, though, is that he got away with it. People who had paid admission to come in and see the animals and the folks who had worked long and hard at their exhibitions had to wait for the “Great Man” to clear the building.
I’ll be hearing the rest of it from my boss tommorow as he was one of the ones directly affected. According to my friend, he’s livid.
Maybe he fears them. Many pet owners will have anecdotes about animals that can sense when a person is “not right”. It could be. There is an old legend about animals recognizing vampires or werewolves as being unnatural, maybe this is the same thing
The problem is, animals will Just Not Get With the Program, Come ON PEOPLE…TM…
Sad to hear this, really, that seems a weird quirk for a man who’s trying to help people get past problems. If you can’t deal with Nature, I’d have doubts about dealing with anything else. Of course, I wanna know more, prurient as I am. Keep us posted.
This is what I’ve been thinking since I read the OP. I can’t imagine that he has an animal phobia or anything similar. For one thing, it would surely have made the news by now as he certainly has his share of detrators, and secondly, if he did have such a phobia I would think that rather than risk exposing it in this way he would just take the long way to his car.
For a self-help guru who has a motto of “Deal with it, people!”, ie, confront your fears rationally; to have an area you don’t want to deal with essentially cordoned off raises some questions, to my mind.
Not to be waiting with a bludgeon in those corridors for Dr. Phil. I see him as doing a good bit of good. Do wonder though. Since this is a “friend of” info piece, I’d like to hear the full story.
Me too. Sounds like he’s even more of a :wally than I thought.
Still, in a head to head situation, I’m going with Dr. Phil. The Kodiak might get in a good swipe or two, but within ten minutes the Kodiak’s gonna be too worried about getting away from Dr. Phil’s insipid pseudo-psychobabble. He’ll probably just slash his own throat cause he can’t DEAL WITH IT and won’t GET WITH THE PROGRAM.
