Dr. Who 10-06 {Season 2, Episode 2: Tooth and Claw}

As there was no thread I could find and I just watched in this morning, I thought I would start the weekly thread.
The shows are always better watching with my kids and we enjoyed this one a lot. Rose was very irreverent, which was fun, she treats some of her adventures like they are not real and just a video game or something. She kept practically begging the Queen to say “We are not Amused”. Funny stuff.
I do wonder where they are going with Torchwood? No spoilers please, just some fun conjecture maybe.

I understand K-9 makes a guest appearance next week, that should be fun.

Jim

I enjoyed this episode. Pauline Collins was excellent as QV. Not to be catty, but did anybody else notice her really bad teeth? The woman has had a successful acting career for thirty years now, ever since she played the saucy housemaid in Upstairs, Downstairs. Can’t she afford a dentist?

There is going to be a Torchwood series starting later this month. Details here

Yes K9 does make an appearance, together with another character from the past

No unboxed spoilers about upcoming episodes, please.

I’ve not been liking this season as much as last season. Not sure if it’s the new Doctor, not sure if it’s the writing, not sure if I’m just not as interested in the subject matter so far or what. I’ve never been a big fan of werewolf stories and I didn’t care anything about Cassandra the first time she was on so the last two eps have been pretty meh.

It does get better. Just wait.

I’m totally confused. Is the issue here that the season is re-airing on Sci-Fi? I mean I sort of understand that… except that BBC is a cable channel for most people. This season has already aired on US television, right? Not that this thread shouldn’t exist for those that are watching it for the first time, but I just got thrown for a loop when I started seeing previews and threads on a season that I thought was already over.

This season has not aired in America yet. Yes, we get a cable channel called BBC America, but it doesn’t show Dr. Who.

I live exclusively in America, and I could have sworn I watched the end of this season on Tv, and I’m pretty sure it was on the BBC America channel. Hence, my confusion. Can anyone explain what happened to me? Am I crazy? What the heck? Where did I see the season if it wasn’t SciFi or the BBC cable channel on American cable?

Sorry, I can’t find any evidence it has aired already in the US. Wikipedia even confirms that it premiered in the US on the Sci fi channel. However, a thread on the BBC America discussion board claims Season 1 will come to BBC A next month.

The BBC America I get, does not show Dr Who. We only get it on SciFi. Perhaps your cable box is tapped into the TARDIS?

Okay, maybe I am crazy. I know that whatever I watched was the conclusion of this season: I confirmed it against the plot summary on wikipedia and there is no mistaking it. WTH???

Anyway, I’m still jonesin to find out what the Face of Boe has to tell the Doctor.

I missed it again! Does SciFi repeat Dr Who during the week anytime?

I think so, but you’ll have to check your listings. Wikipedia also has full summaries for most episodes if you can’t find it any other way.

Unless the search function at Yahoo’s tv listing site is messed up, SciFi airs each episode twice on Friday’s and that’s it.

However, I seem to remember that last season they did a “marathon” at one point, so that’s your only hope unless you can find a helpful soul to send you a recording.

Any word on when Torchwood will make its way to SciFi?

I don’t think the K-9 thing could really be considered a spoiler, since he’s been on all the season 2 teasers.

David Tenant is really growing on me. I like his(?) choice of wearing glasses at certain times.

One question for the Brits on the boards: Without spoiling anything, did Stephan Moffet (sp?) write any more episodes? I really liked his turn with “The Empty Child” and “The Doctor Dances”.

Oh yeah - Torchwood was the operation that had the giant Death-Star gun in “The Christmas Invasion”.

It was also the answer to one of the Weakest Link questions in season 1. Would any one know what that question was?

He wrote one of the early episodes of the second season, the one involving French courtesan Madame de Pompadour, which should be showing soon in the US. And while TBH I don’t really get Doctor Who, I have to say that I thought that episode was great. It had a sort of Twilight Zone feel to it.

Sci Fi channel on Fridays after Battlestar Galactica (or as I like to call it - “Remakes of Sci Fi Shows From When I Was 8 Years Old Fridays”)

“The Great Cobalt Pyramid is built on the remains of which famous Old Earth institute?”

I enjoyed this ep as well–like the origin of Torchwood (Hope SciFi picks that up as well–sounds great and I liked Cpt. Jack).

I have a question, apparently we lose Rose at the end of this season and she is replaced. Is there an “out of story” as well as an “in-story” reason?

If so, what’s the “Out of story” and if you feel inclined spoiler-box the in-story reason.
