Dr Who 2.1 (Spoilers)

Content-free first post so nothing shows up in the thread preview.

Not bad at all, was it?

The disinfection scene was rather fun.

The ending was rather bittersweet - much like the the Dalek episode.

And Lady Cassandra did have some very good lines.

I liked Lady Cassandra’s line " it’s just like being inside a bouncy castle" when she was talking about inhabiting Rose’s body.

The catty nuns’ make-up was very good, the zombies, OTOH, not so much.
I know they are on a shoestring budget for sfx, but sometimes, it’s used quite unevenly. So a little bit of Matrix and a little bit of zombies to get Tennant warmed up. I think I like him, but am not yet convinced he’ll meassure up to Eccleston’s level.

As for Billie Piper… I’ll be in my bunk.

I enjoyed it, and I think Tennant works as Dr Who. (But I’m afraid I still prefer Eccleston.) I liked Piper as Cassandra, she did it rather well. Overall, it was a good episode.

I’m looking forward to the next episode.

I see Eccleston as slightly dangerous and Tennant as mischieveous (sp?), and I think dangerous makes for a more interesting Doctor. But I’ve only seen Tennant in two outings and he was comatose in the x-mas special, so maybe we’ll see more nuances of his take on the good Doctor’s personality.

Looking at the material on the BBC’s website before the series started, I though that Billie Piper was looking old. But after seeing epidode 1, and hearing her “posh” voice while Cassandra was inside her (ooh er, missus), she has risen greatly in my estimation.

Not the greatest episode, in my opinion, despite having been written by Russell T himself.

Good + funny dialogue, stupid plot, trite moralizing, great “possessed” acting by Tennant and Piper, nice cat people, bad zombies, good Rose cheesecake scenes, cool it with the shippy bullshit between Rose and the Doctor. It doesn’t work. Looking forward to the WEREWOLVES, SCARY.

The viewing figures are now in for the show. They came in at 8.3 million .This is down on the 10 million for the first episode of the last series, but this time ITV were showing a Harry Potter film (which had 6.1 million viewers). These figures do not take into account those people who recorded the show to watch at a later time.

I say this as a heterosexual male, but I got a little bit misty eyed at Cassandra’s final scene.

Although, being a Yankee, I know little about Billie’s singing career, I thought she did a fantastic job showing off her acting chops as ‘Cassandra’ was in her. Likewise with Tennant, who, if nothing else, seems to really enjoy the role. I read he was somewhat of a Dr. Who geek, so that adds more to his credibility and of my enjoyment of him.

I was very much expecting the Doctor and Rose to leave quietly … and then Cassandra to sit up and say, “Suckers!

So much so that I was quite disappointed when it didn’t happen. This episode gave Cassandra enough depth that I think it would have been interesting to leave her out there, causing mischief.

I’ve been trying to like Tennant, I really have… But I was just rewatching all of Series 1 with a friend, and Eccleston was SO SO SO much better…

The Christmas Invasion was fun and it was nice to have the Doctor back, but this first episode was just so-so… Billie did a great job though, and the disinfectant scene made me laugh out loud…

But even with all my complaining, I’ll be watching em all!

I think it was a light-hearted, fun start to the new series and I expect to see more serious episodes to come. Billie was great as Cassandra-Rose but I’m not completely taken with the new doctor yet…

Chav-tastic!

I thought the instant zombie-curing was a bit dumb, but this is a kids show isn’t it?
