So I broke down and decided to go wireless in my apartment, mainly becuase I want ot hook up my Xbox the net but I don’t want to run 30 - 40 feet of cat 5. Went to CompUSA today and was going to buy the Linksys Wireless Access Point/Router but noticed that it was still using the Draft 802.11g spec. I know that the final version of 802.11g was formalized this past summer. Are the old products that used the draft version firmware upgradeable to the final version of 802.11g? If not, is the draft version just as good? Is it interoperable with the final version or should I just look for equipment with the the final draft specs?
I would expect “draft” products would be upgradeable (If it’s needed at all)
You’d need to check with the manufacturer of the device in question to know for sure.
It should be fine. Have you looked at LinkSys’ site to see of there is a flash upgrade for whatever model you wanted? Some OEMs are flashing their systems to conform to the final standard if they expect any issues.
