I’m thinking of updating my home phoneline network to 802.11g wireless. Theoretically, as the technology approaches final standardsapproval, firmware updates will be provided.
CompUSA is having a six-hour sale tonight, and I can get a Belkin 802.11g router very cheap (about what I would expect to pay for a 802.11b router from Linksys or Netgear).
Computer-savvy Dopers, what do you think? Should I jump, or should I wait? Why?
I don’t know how good Belkin is at networking gear - I know them more for cables and doo-dads.
I do know that Amazon has an offer going for the Linksys WRT54G router/WAP and a laptop card for $180. No rebates needed, and free shipping.
Around here, network equipment is either Linksys or Cisco. And Cisco bought Linksys yesterday. Between that and my personal experience with Linksys at home, I’d spend the difference and go with Linksys.
