802.11ac Routers

Since ordering my iPhone 6+, I’ve been reviewing some new routers to replace my aging D-Link DIR-645.

I’ve been specifically looking at the following:
[ul]
[li]Asus AC2400 RT-AC87U[/li][li]Asus RT-AC68U[/li][li]Netgear R7000[/li][/ul]
Does anyone have experience using any of these? Any pros/cons to any of them? Or anything else to consider?
I would like to have the most reliable and farthest reaching signal possible, but also want to have easy configuration of port forwards, etc.

I recently replaced our old Netgear wireless router with a new Netgear wireless router with the 802.11 standard. My reasons were not the same as yours, I switched up because my old router was going offline on a regular basis. A technician told me that internal heat buildup kills routers and suggested turning them off when not in use. He said that most routers only last a year or so and are usually obsolete after two years so plan on upgrading regularly. Anyway, I stayed with Netgear because the initial setup is easy and straightforward unlike the horrible experience I had with a D-Link router.

My suggestion, buy your new router from WalMart or Costco. Both have no-hassle return policy. WalMart return policy now is two weeks on electronics. Try out your new router during that period and if it meets your expectations, keep it. If not, carefully pack it up as you received it and return it with your purchase receipt and receive your refund. I’ve found Staples and some other big-box stores are reluctant to accept returns and their prices are usually higher on the same merchandise.

Thanks! I checked Costco for the RT-AC87U, but it’s still so new, they don’t carry it.

Anyway, I guess more of the point of this thread is to ask if anyone has had experience with these routers or similar and any pros/cons they’ve dealt with them in ease of use, etc.
