I have a Belkin router and it’s a piece of crap. When I try to watch movies on Hulu or scroll quickly in Google Maps, it dies on me. I know it’s not my connection, because everything works fine when I hook my computer up directly to the cable modem. From what I can tell, the problem has to do with the number of connections the router can sustain.
Is there a decent, relatively inexpensive WiFi router that’s powerful enough to sustain the kinds of connections used by Google Maps and Hulu?
I have a linksys and don’t have problems. Recently, I set it to use WPA2 and started having problems connecting, but that was resolved by geting the latest firmware.
We have a Linksys wireless gateway but I accidentally broke the antenna while rearranging our computer area. Good thing we don’t really need wireless right now.
I bought a ZyXEL X-550 and I’ve never been happier with a router. I had previously used Linksys and D-Link. I can’t seem to find this particular router anymore, but I’ve had excellent luck with the brand, so if they have a newer equivalent to mine, I recommend it.
I have the Apple AirPort and love it. It works flawlessly with a Macbook, A Dell notebook, the Xbox, the iPhone and AppleTV. I had a Belkin and a LinkSys before and both crapped out/were flaky pieces of shit. I highly recommend it.
